The Teen Programs Assistant is responsible for assisting in the development, implementation, and evaluation of activities, meetings, and events for the NHMU’s Critical Action Lab program. The Critical Action Lab aims to provide teens with meaningful and fun opportunities to build skills and make connections with other teens that care about climate action. The Assistant is part of the Museum’s Education and Community Engagement team, helping to deliver education programs that make science accessible and exciting, while providing opportunities to engage in authentic science and critical thinking. Responsibilities
• Work collaboratively with NHMU’s Critical Action Lab Coordinator and Teen Programs Manager in planning and implementing meetings, trainings, and events.
• Assist CAL Coordinator with communication to program participants.
• Assist with facilitation of meetings, trainings, and events.
• Support program evaluation and learning research activities.
• Respect and promote departmental efforts toward engagement
• Track relevant program data and attendance in alignment with program and reporting needs as determined by program coordinator and program manager.
• Prepare program materials and maintain program equipment.
• Support and facilitate training sessions for Critical Action Lab program participants focusing on various critical thinking subjects and climate action.
• Ensure quality and consistency of communication with program participants, parents, teachers, community and partners.
• Supervise, support and evaluate students as they plan events and participate in program activities to ensure program goals and expectations are met.
• Respect and promote departmental efforts toward support and broader participation in STEM.
• Develop and maintain professional peer contacts with partner organizations and internal staff in order to stay current on educational and scientific information and to pursue collaborative opportunities.
• Deliver extraordinary customer service to all Museum audiences and internal staff.
Minimum Qualifications
EQUIVALENCY STATEMENT: 1 year of higher education can be substituted for 1 year of directly related work experience (Example: bachelor’s degree = 4 years of directly related work experience).

Department may hire employee at one of the following job levels:

Program Assistant,, I: Requires little to no related experience.
Preferences
• Bachelor’s degree in a related area or equivalency (2 years related work experience may be substituted for 1 year of education).
• Must possess a valid driver’s license; ability to travel and occasionally remain overnight.
• Demonstrated human relations and effective communication skills are also required.
• Applicants must demonstrate the potential ability to perform the essential functions of the job as outlined in the position description.
