The Job: The Sr. Educator, Science Leadership Initiative is responsible for developing and implementing professional learning programs for K-12 STEAM teachers. This role will contribute to programs that will build leadership capacity for whole-school science improvement.

This is a fulltime position at the Museum and is a union-represented position (AFSCME Council 31).


Responsibilities
  • Develop and deliver leadership development opportunities for teachers of science in grades K-12 in support of the Professional Learning department's strategic priorities.
  • Plan, implement, and refine professional development for teachers and/or administrators in the following areas: leading whole-school improvement in science and supporting school-wide STEAM initiatives.
  • Coach and mentor program participants to support transfer of learning to their individual school's context.
  • Support the development of fee-based programs and/or contracted services with schools and districts.
  • Cultivate and facilitate an ongoing professional learning community of current and past program participants.
  • Support efforts to research the impact and evaluate the effectiveness of programs.
  • Contribute to the field of science and STEM education and build visibility for the Museum's programs.
  • Identify, remain current in, and apply best practices in teacher education, STEAM education, change management, and school leadership for K-12 students and teachers.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in science or education and 5-7 years of related experience; Master's degree preferred.
  • K-12 classroom teaching experience in implementing Next Generation Science Standards required.
  • Experience leading science professional development for teachers and administrators, and coaching or mentoring educators is required.
  • Experience working with multiple stakeholder groups in public school settings (e.g., teachers, administrators, parents or caregivers, and community members) preferred.
  • Expertise in democratic dialogue and leadership development preferred.
  • Proven track record in managing multiple projects and deadlines with a high degree of initiative and independence.
  • Excellent communication skills, in all forms, and experience communicating with diverse audiences.
  • Proficiency in MS Office and Google Suite.
  • Ability to contribute to a collaborative, congenial, and professional team environment; exhibiting creativity, enthusiasm, flexibility, and openness to new ideas and to give and receive constructive feedback.
  • Valid driver's license and a clean
