Project Overview

Bechtel National, Inc. (BNI), Bechtel’s government services business, is one of the top providers to departments and agencies of the U.S. and British governments. Its successes include many large, first-of-a-kind projects in government site management, environmental restoration, defense, space, energy, and national and homeland security. Bechtel currently manages the Mobile Launcher 2 project at Kennedy Space Center, FL. This project is the design and construction of the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) Mobile Launcher 2 (ML2) for the Space Launch System (SLS).

Position Summary

Nightshift Pipe Field Engineer reports to the dayshift Lead Field Engineer and is responsible for providing technical assistance, direction, and support to field supervision for construction and installation activities. Work includes work planning, field inspections, coordinating across disciplines and with design, documenting field changes and non-conformances, and supporting craft professionals. Conducting field inspections may include the following activities: extensive walking in and around a construction site, climbing ladders, climbing scaffolding, working on elevated platforms, working on uneven surfaces and working in small or confined spaces. Some lifting may be required. Must have the ability to walk into and out of the project (enter/egress). Must be able to use appropriate standard issued Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) required for each assigned task (i.e. harness, life vest, lift buckets, etc.).

 

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate with engineering on constructability and design issues relating to piping systems and mechanical equipment.
  • Develop work plans, coordinate materials, perform and document inspections, report progress, and resolve conflicts in design and construction related to the installation and testing of piping/mechanical equipment and commodities.
  • Direct the preparation of material take offs for field purchased piping material and equipment.
  • Review and generate requisitions for field purchases.
  • Support field procurement in inspection and receipt of piping and pipe support materials.
  • Review the preparation of construction drawings and schedules.
  • Assist Superintendents and craft professionals in the interpretation of design and vendor drawings, monitor pipe commodity delivery, storage, and installation.
  • Interface with survey team for laser scanning, as-building and general layout for equipment and piping installations.
  • Review specifications, procedures, inspection reports, delivery schedules, vendor manuals, and technical data.
  • Responsible for development of pressure test packages, performance, witnessing, and documentation of test acceptance.
  • Coordinate with Subcontractor work efforts and interfaces with client personnel as required.
  • Interface with the Construction Automation Group and Project Controls. Perform take offs from Issued For Construction drawings, provide input to the quantity tracking applications and reports weekly installed quantities to Project Controls.
  • Perform constructability reviews of engineering design, resolves issues with engineering and fabricator.
