The Reinsurance Underwriting Manager leads the evaluation, pricing, and underwriting of reinsurance treaties (and facultative placements, if applicable) across P&C lines. This role ensures the company assumes profitable reinsurance risk, maintains underwriting discipline, and supports strategic growth objectives. The ideal candidate combines deep technical underwriting expertise with strong analytical, negotiation, and relationship‑management skills.
Key Responsibilities
Underwriting & Portfolio Management
Evaluate and underwrite reinsurance submissions across property, casualty, and specialty lines.
Analyze exposure data, loss history, catastrophe modeling outputs, and underwriting guidelines to determine risk quality.
Develop pricing recommendations using actuarial models, rating tools, and market benchmarks.
Manage a portfolio of assumed reinsurance business to ensure profitability, diversification, and alignment with risk appetite.
Monitor treaty performance, emerging trends, and loss development; recommend corrective actions when needed.
Deal Structuring & Negotiation
Structure treaty terms, conditions, and coverage features that balance competitiveness with risk control.
Lead negotiations with brokers and cedents on pricing, terms, and contract wording.
Review and approve contract language to ensure clarity, enforceability, and alignment
