Description
Our community Oncology Practice operates a Medically Integrated Dispensary (MID), which allows us to dispense outpatient specialty medications to our patients, medications which would otherwise have to be obtained through a specialty pharmacy. We believe this provides a better patient experience, better outcomes, and superior adherence to therapy. The dispensing assistant would be responsible for all MID operations and dispensing functions, under the direct supervision of licensed healthcare professionals.
Key Responsibilities
- Data entry, order processing, billing, and fulfillment, within the pharmacy management system, of prescriptions issued by oncology practice providers
- Direct communication with providers and nursing staff to obtain clarification when details of prescriptions are unclear
- Management of dispensary on-hand inventory, medication ordering and receipt of orders; organization of invoices and reporting to wholesaler when medications are not received
- Initiating and managing prior authorizations for medications to be dispensed, involving close coordination with clinical staff to ensure expedient turnaround times and prior authorization approval
- Researching and obtaining copay assistance to reduce or eliminate patients’ out-of-pocket costs for their prescriptions
- Manage daily and monthly reporting within the pharmacy management system
- Maintain prescription records and proactively self-audit prescriptions to identify potential errors and reduce PBM audit risk liability
Requirements
Education/Training
- High School Degree or equivalent experience
- Minimum 2- year Specialty, Hospital, or Retail Pharmacy experience
- Pharmacy Technician Certification, CPhT (PTCB, ASHP) preferred
Business Experience
- Intermediate computer literacy (Word, Excel, Outlook, Power Point, etc.)
- Experience with CoverMyMeds preferred but not required
- Familiarity with basic Electronic Medical Record functionality preferred but not required
Specialized Knowledge/Skills
- Demonstrates ability to work independently
- Demonstrates ability to manage, prioritize, and triage workflow tasks and patient management
- Demonstrates excellent communication skills. Both verbal and written communication to support the business.
Working Conditions
- Environment (Oncology Practice/Physician Office.)
- Occasional handling of environmentally hazardous medications and/or medications that have special handling or storage requirements
- Closely monitored and legally complaint regulations
- Mindfulness of unique patient population, compromised immune systems due to immunotherapy or compromising illness – prompt communication with supervising staff if suspected to have cold/respiratory illness
- Physical Requirements (Lifting, standing, etc.) –
- Lifting and carrying < 15lbs
- Sitting for several hours at a time
