About the role

Compensation: $140,000 - $175,000 per year. You are eligible for a Short-Term Incentive Plan with the target at 10% of your annual earnings; terms and conditions apply.

Principal DevOps Engineer - Remote PST or Hybrid in Aliso Viejo, CA

This role is responsible for providing technical leadership and driving the strategic direction of DevOps practices, tools, and processes within the organization. The Principal DevOps Engineer works closely with cross functional teams to ensure the efficient and reliable delivery of applications while maintaining scalability, resiliency, and security. 

 Essential Functions

  • Provide technical leadership and guidance in the design, implementation, and optimization of DevOps practices, tools, and processes 
  • Drive the adoption of DevOps principles and best practices across the team & organization 
  • Collaborate with development teams to identify and address bottlenecks and challenges in the software delivery pipeline 
  • Oversee the implementation and maintenance of containerized application deployments using Docker and container orchestration platforms such as Docker Swarm, Kubernetes and ECS 
  • Ensure the effective implementation and maintenance of CI/CD pipelines using tools like AWS CodePipeline and GitHub Actions 
  • Manage and optimize the use of code repositories using tools like BitBucket and GitHub 
  • Implement and maintain Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using tools like CloudFormation, Terraform, and CDK 
  • Implement and maintain monitoring, logging, and security solutions for applications and infrastructure 
  • Mentor and provide technical guidance to DevOps engineers and cross functional teams 
  • Contribute to the documentation and runbooks of processes, procedures, and best practices related to DevOps practices 
  • Continuously improve DevOps practices and processes to align with industry best practices and emerging technologies 
  • Represent the DevOps team in cross functional meetings and strategic planning discussions 
  • Other duties as assigned  

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field or equivalent work experience 
  • 8+ years of experience in DevOps, software development, system administration, or related field 
  • Extensive hands-on experience with containerization (Docker), container orchestration (Docker Swarm, Kubernetes, ECS), CI/CD tools (CodePipeline, Github Actions, Bamboo), IaC (CloudFormation, Terraform, CDK) 
  • Deep understanding of DevOps principles, practices, and their implementation across the entire software delivery lifecycle 
  • Strong proficiency in scripting and automation tools (Python, Bash, Ansible) 
  • Experience with monitoring, logging, and security tools/best practices  
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and mentoring skills 
  • Ability to drive strategic DevOps initiatives and represent the team at executive levels 

Preferred

  • Master's degree
