Job Description
The Physical Operator oversees movements of liquid commodities with counterparties in accordance with contract terms and conditions of the purchase/sale.
Job Duties Include:
- Reconcile all credit terms required of counterparts and storage facilities with the designated internal finance team
- Issue clear, written instructions to the relevant inspection company for every scheduled product movement. Manage all information received from third parties, such as agents, inspectors, freight brokers, Vessels, and terminal operators and distributing it appropriately internally
- Serve as a liaison between the traders, managers and other participants to maximize trading strategies and minimize risk exposure
- Oversee all movements within the designated storage facilities for inventory maximization by issuing specific written instructions for terminal operations
- Maintain detailed information for each storage terminal, by tank, to show current inventory levels by grade for blending and commercial purposes
- Review and execute all contracts forwarded by the contract administration
- Prepare claims against inspectors, storage facilities, barge companies & vessel owners
- Work closely with the operations traffic personnel to coordinate payment orders and invoices
- Oversee all regulatory compliance documentation, including U.S. Customs, state tax departments, and Environmental Protection Agency
- Vessel chartering (Oil Tankers, gas carriers, etc.)
- Control operations of tanker vessels loading and discharging, with focus on BP VOY 4 Charter party Terms (vessel chartering document), clauses and conditions, UKC (Under Keel Clearance) calculations / tide and owner negotiations, Freight & Deviation Calculation, Freight Differential Analysis, VEF (Vessel Experience Factor), Line Verification, TPC – Tonnage per Centimeter (Draft calculation), Stowage Plan Analysis, Shore & Vessel Tank Cleaning, Q88 (vessel documentation) and, Ship to Ship operations (Product Transfer)
- Provide voyage instructions to vessel owners in accordance with customers’ specifications and charter party requirements
- Liaise with surveyor inspection companies regarding quality and quantity control
- day-to-day activities of petroleum purchase and sales contracts
- Manage & record all Operations on internal software platforms: VISTA (risk assessment, volume tracking), DIVA (Document storage repository), WAVE (Vessel tracking platform) and, ORCA (Vessel Chartering and document analysis)
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree (or foreign equivalent) in Mechanical Engineering, or a related field
- 5 years of post-baccalaureate, progressive experience as an Inspector, Physical Operator, or related
- 4 years of experience to include: vessel operations, terminal operations and trade management; inventory & quality tracking, internal transfers, marine load & discharge operations, and terrestrial logistics in tankers, trucks, and railcars
- 3 years of experience to include: working with petroleum products quality specifications to include Unleaded Gasoline 87/92, Ultra-Low Sulfur Diesel, Jet Fuel, and Kerosene; Fuel and Product delivery; supply contract management
- 2 years of experience to include: Vessel specifications, design, performance & certifications including Q88, Stowage Plans, Pipeline Diagrams, and Vessel General Arrangement
- 1 year of experience to include: Programming in Python, HTML, and SQL.
- Requires 20% domestic travel
