The University Of Miami Miller School Of Medicine's Department of General Medicine has an exciting opportunity for a full-time Case Worker/HIV Counselor to work on the UHealth campus. The CW will work under the guidance of the Case Worker Supervisor and Program Manager to identify the health issues of most significant concern and provide participants with risk reduction education, care coordination, and access to outside resources. Responsibilities may include provision of health education and supportive counseling tailored to the client; data collection and preparation of documents for data entry and tracking; housing, income, and food procurement; medical and other benefits enrollment; access to medication assistance, mental health counseling, and substance abuse treatment; outside specialty care, laboratory, pharmaceutical services; and other services to enable health maintenance.

CORE JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Conducts situational analysis, which may be at home and/or office visits, mentors, and provides technical assistance as needed.
  • Collaborates with the service agencies and program leadership to provide and administer services appropriately.
  • Develops and provides training to family support networks and/or care providers on various topics related to quality early care and education. 
  • Maintains and reviews records and files to ensure compliance with project guidelines.
  • Collaborates with all funding sources to ensure the availability of adequate resources.
  • Maintains current knowledge of services available and changes applicable rules and regulations.
  • Attends meetings and training, which may include the Early Learning Coalition, United Way, and the Quality Counts Career Center to enhance developmental potential.
  • Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.

CORE QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in relevant field required.
  • Minimum 3 year of relevant experience required.
  • Relevant experience working with the community of interest preferred.
  • Knowledge of the cultural and socioeconomic characteristics of Black and minority populations in Miami-Dade County preferred.
  • Flexible hours, including some weekends, are required to fulfill the program’s outreach needs.
  • Local traveling is involved.

Knowledge, Skills, and Attitudes:

  • Bilingual (English and Spanish or Haitian Creole) preferred.
  • Skill in completing assignments accurately and with attention to detail.
  • Ability to analyze, organize and prioritize work under pressure while meeting deadlines.
  • Ability to process and handle confidential information with discretion.
  • Ability to work evenings, nights, and weekends as necessary.
  • Commitment to the University’s core values.
  • Ability to work independently and/or in a collaborative environment.
