MANTECH seeks a motivated, career and customer-oriented Conservation Biologist to join our team in Lompoc, CA. This is a full-time onsite position.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Removal of non-native, invasive plants primarily via chemical and manual methods

  • Instillation of native out planting and maintenance of irrigation systems

  • Propagate and maintain native plants in a remote island greenhouse setting

  • Monitor the success of restoration

  • Perform surveys for threatened and endangered flora and fauna

  • Navigate and map various plant species using GPS

  • Identify maintenance needs of equipment, e.g., pumps, engines, trailers, and vehicles

  • Travel up to 50%

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science (B.S.) Degree in Biology, Ecology, or related Natural Resources field required

  • 2+ years of experience with coastal California biological resources, specifically central and southern California coastal plant species and vegetation communities

  • Possession of a California Department of Pesticide Regulation Qualified Applicator Certificate

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Ability to identify common local vegetation types including both native and non-native plant species in a variety of habitats throughout California

  • Experience with dichotomous keys such as those in The Jepson Manual

  • Experience in identifying common local vegetation types including both native and non-native plant species in a variety of habitats throughout California

Clearance Requirements:

  • US Citizenship required

Physical Requirements:           

  • Must be comfortable working outdoors and may be exposed to typical field hazards such as poison oak, ticks, and other nuisance species

  • Office work entails stationary sitting positions up to 20% of the time

  • Operates a computer and other office productivity machinery, such as a calculator, copy machine and computer printer

  • Must be able to move weight occasionally up to 50 lbs. at a time

  • Must be able to traverse outdoors in rugged uneven terrain at night

  • Must be able to ope
