About the role
Obtains blood for laboratory examination by venipuncture.
1. Performs venipuncture on clients.
2. Orders and maintains adequate medical supplies for laboratory procedures in phlebotomy room and for all clinical services.
3. Adheres to universal protocol precautions when disposing of all contaminated items in compliance with standard precautions and protocol while performing phlebotomy and/or laboratory procedures.
4. Prepares, packages and transports lab specimens to appropriate destinations for processing.
5. Performs other duties as assigned. Education, Experience and Training:
Graduation from an accredited high school/GED Program.
Special Requirements/Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Certified as a Phlebotomist, or completion of Introduction to Phlebotomy and Clinical Phlebotomy coursework from an accredited school and ability to obtain certification within thirty (30) days of hire. Ability to effectively communicate, both verbally and in writing, and establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, departments and the general public.
Physical/Environmental Requirements:
Requires prolonged sitting, standing, walking and the ability to lift and carry up to 25 lbs., unassisted. Exposure to blood and various diseases.
