The Institute for Educational Initiatives is seeking applicants to serve as instructors and supervisors of field placements in tutoring apprenticeships with TutorND. This includes participation in a collaborative design community consisting of other instructors, coaches, tutors, tutoring assistants, researchers, and teacher educators to implement and improve evidence-based tutoring programs for children in PK-9.

Position Overview:
Educators in charge of leading TutorND tutoring apprenticeships will supervise, coach, observe, and build community with a team of tutors and their tutees. They are responsible for fostering positive relationships among and between beneficiaries of our tutoring programs (e.g., tutors, tutees, schools, afterschool programs, families). The overarching objectives of the position are to educate, train, and develop tutor talent; to create a strong sense of community and belongingness in the program; and to ensure tutors and tutees have the tools and resources they need to reach their goals. We value leaders who stay informed of the practical demands of tutoring and exhibit role-model tutoring behaviors, so every member of our collaborative design community, including faculty, spend time tutoring at local schools and/or via Zoom on structured literacy and/or math programs for children in grades PK-9 Educators receive training in our principles, programs, and practices, including working safely with children, but the position relies on the educator’s expertise and motivation to set and accomplish goals for their team, as well as to help their team of tutors set and accomplish goals. Educators set priorities, provide instruction and feedback, and organize a work environment that helps a team of tutors achieve their mission to provide the best possible education for children. Educators will demonstrate dispositional strengths in the areas of teaching and mentoring; relationship building; and academic program service delivery.
Responsibilities:

Participate in a collaborative design community to implement and improve evidence-based tutoring programs.

Manage, instruct, coach, observe, support, and develop a team of tutors who administer structured literacy and/or math programs for children in grades PK-9

Serve as a model tutor and provide feedback to your team through collaborative design meetings and coaching sessions.

Observe, record, and analyze internal assessment data and work with a collaborative design community to spot trends and make adjustments as needed to improve tutor experience, tutor-student relationships, and student learning.

Ensure that tutors perform effectively and that our policies and procedures are fully implemented and consistently applied.

Be a liaison between Notre Dame and the school admin and/or designated school staff at your assigned site as needed to build relationships, provide updates on successes and challenges, engage feedback on how the program can improve, etc.

Meet regularly with other faculty and staff to optimize alignment of scopes and sequences with your team’s needs, seek feedback, share successes and challenges, and brainstorm potential improvements for your team and other teams.

Maintain, monitor, and analyze tutor and student progress and attendance and work with others to create intervention plans for tutors and students who need additional support
