SECONDARY 7-12 SOCIAL STUDIES CURRICULUM COACH
Position Summary: The Social Studies Coach for secondary 7-12 social studies is responsible for assisting the Social Studies Director in planning for and training all Secondary Building Coaches, Demonstration Teachers, classroom teachers and contacts in the implementation of effective 7-12 standards-based social studies instruction that is rich in content within the Inquiry Design Model. Duties and Responsibilities:

Assists schools in implementing effective inquiry designed instruction using research based instructional strategies deep rooted in Disciplinary Literacy and SCSD instructional framework initiatives.

Assists administrators in supporting, training, and coaching teachers and staff in the inquiry design model for rich content in the Humanities.

Designs and delivers training to administrators/teachers in providing feedback to students to improve instructional delivery within the inquiry design model.

Identifies resources and supports teachers with differentiation to meet all students' needs in secondary social studies that is rich in social sciences and literature.

Provides individual assistance to schools experiencing significant struggles in the areas of analysis of authentic texts and writing across the content areas.

Works in collaboration with the Director of English Language Arts and Supervisor of Fine Arts and other areas to maximize teacher effectiveness as it relates to the Humanities instruction.

Performs other duties as assigned by the Director of Social Studies
Education and Experience Education:

Bachelor's degree in education or in Secondary Social Studies 7-12 required

Master's Degree and or higher degree preferred
Experience:

Minimum of five years successful classroom teaching experience required

Three years supervisory experience preferred

Prior experience with standards-based instruction, teaching of Humanities using Inquiry Design Model and professional staff development required

Experience working within a large, complex organization preferred

Strong evidence of content knowledge in World History (specifically Ancient Civilizations), United States History, and ethnic studies.
Certification/Licensure:

Must hold or be eligible for a valid and clear teaching certificate in Secondary Social Studies 7-12.
Minimum Qualifications:

Detailed knowledge and experience with standards-based instruction and assessment practices aligned with project-based learning and the inquiry design model.

Experience with curriculum development

Demonstrated ability to develop and deliver training to adult learners across multiple disciplines and levels

Demonstrated knowledge in differentiation and meeting the needs of varied learners

Ability to plan and implement short and long-range goals and objectives

Ability to work with collaborative teams

Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and Castle Learning

Excellent interpersonal skills needed to work effectively with administrators, staff, and community members
