Travel within the state of Georgia is expected approximately 15% of the time.
** Overnight travel may be needed on less frequent basis.
JOB SUMMARY
Responsible for various civil engineering, project management, and construction support activities associated with Georgia Power Transmission infrastructure projects. Performs or manages civil sitework design for electric substation and transmission line projects, typically including components of grading and drainage, stormwater management, erosion control, etc. Provides project leadership and subject matter expertise for civil site development projects for various clients within Georgia Power.
The position will be filled at Engineering Associate II, Engineering Associate III, or Engineering Associate Sr. based on work experience, skills, education, and professional certifications.
The position is located at the Georgia Power Corporate Headquarters in Atlanta, GA with an in-office requirement four days a week (Monday through Thursday). Remote working on Friday is an option, provided the individual has reliable internet access.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
Responsibilities of the Engineering Associate (Civil) vary depending on level, but typically include some or all the following:
- Produce civil sitework design packages for the construction of electric substations, transmission lines, corporate facilities, and other projects across the Georgia Power system. These design packages typically include grading and drainage, stormwater, erosion and sediment control, etc.
- Manage the production of civil sitework design packages and other civil engineering services being produced by contract engineering consultants for Georgia Power. Provide oversight and direction, coordinate with the project team, and conduct quality control reviews on deliverables.
- Participate in the site selection/evaluation of new facilities by studying and providing professional opinion to the project team. Conduct due diligence on selected sites during land acquisition.
- Provide general civil engineering support to various internal Georgia Power customers. This may include activities such as diagnosing and solving stormwater/drainage issues at company sites, meeting with external parties to discuss and resolve civil/site related issues.
- Utilize CAD tools, specifically Civil 3D, to perform design and provide civil sitework support mentioned above.
- Perform quality control and quality assurance of design deliverables produced both internally and by contract engineering consultants.
- Conduct site visits for projects statewide for site evaluation, design meetings, construction meetings, construction quality assurance, resolution of construction challenges, etc.
- Evaluate and provide input on scopes, schedules, and budgets for civil activities. Manage and regularly communicate on all assigned, scheduled civil activities. Establish and hold scheduling expectations.
- Regularly coordinate with Land Engineering colleagues, other engineering disciplines, project management, and construction partners. Build and maintain relationships with internal customers and peers.
- Participate in the development and maintenance of procedures, standards, and guidelines associates with civil/site development at Georgia Power.
- Provide technical direction to project team members. Participate in the development of teammates and other staff.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
All Levels
- BS Degree in Civil Engineering, Civil Engineering Technology, or a closely related field from ABET accredited university. A BS in Civil Engineering is strongly preferred.
- Working knowledge of the Georgia Erosion and Sedimentation Control Act, NPDES construction stormwater permit requirements, the Georgia Stormwater Management Manual and Manual for Erosion and Sediment Control in Georgia, and other regulations related to site development and land disturbance activities.
- Ability to interpret and utilize data (boundary and topographical surveys, environmental surveys and delineations, geotechnical studies, etc.) for civil site design activities.
