Position Overview
This position coordinates the operations of the laundry department and equipment within the laundry department. The individual in this role will establish preventative maintenance schedules, prepare maintenance work orders, request major repairs, and make minor repairs to equipment. The position will also assign work and monitor individuals in custody assigned to the laundry in receiving, washing, packing, and delivering laundry within the facility to ensure peak efficiency of the laundry operations. This position will maintain records and prepare reports of laundry activity. We encourage all qualified candidates to apply.
Job Responsibilities
- Coordinates the operation of the laundry department and equipment.
- Assigns work and monitors individuals in custody assigned to the laundry in receiving, sorting, washing, repairing, ironing, packing, and delivering laundry within the facility to ensure peak efficiency of laundry operation
- Enforces and maintains the security, sanitation, and safety of the laundry.
- Maintains adequate inventory of laundry supplies.
- Maintains records of individuals in custody, operations, and equipment maintenance.
- Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.
Minimum Qualifications
- Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to the completion of four (4) years of high school.
- Requires one (1) year of supervisory experience in a commercial, institutional or state-operated facility laundry.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prefers working knowledge of modern laundry techniques, methods, and operations, planning and controls.
- Prefers ability to demonstrate proper operations and regulation of all laundry equipment.
- Prefers ability to isolate and resolve problems involving laundry systems and processes, practices and procedures.
- Prefers ability to schedule and control a volume operation with a full range of laundry jobs.
- Prefers ability to plan and layout work according to requirements of assignment and to lead individuals in custody by example and instruction.
- Prefers ability to enforce disciplinary, safety, security and custodial measures for the control of individuals in custody.
Conditions of Employment
- Requires completion of an approved course in guard training within six (6) months of employment.
- Requires ability to pass the IDOC/IDJJ background check.
- Requires ability to pass a drug screen. The use of unauthorized drugs by an employee, regardless of the position held, is prohibited.
