Description
OverviewDiversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Access (DEIA) is one of the cornerstones of the Library's continued existence as a public service organization in one of the most diverse cities in the world.
The Program Assistant will provide administrative support, project work, calendar management, and document management for the DEIA Office. They will also assist with budget management, preparing reports and presentations, and the planning and logistics of DEIA-sponsored & co-sponsored events.
Responsibilities
Reporting to the DEIA Program Manager, this person will assist with:
- The ideation, development, and delivery of DEIA-related programs, events, and initiatives in close partnership with key stakeholders across the organization
- Drafting, editing, and distributing correspondence for DEIA-related events, programs, and initiatives
- Tracking deliverables, identifying roadblocks, facilitating meetings, and managing stakeholder relationships across NYPL.
- Guidance to Employee Resource Groups to build momentum around DEIA initiatives and programs.
- The development and implementation of an annual diversity report that includes data insights, goal accomplishments, and strategic plans for growth.
- Performs other related tasks as needed
Required Education, Experience & Skills
Required Education & Experience- High School Diploma
- Preference for candidates who are currently enrolled or have been in an undergraduate or graduate degree
- Some experience in the following areas: programming, research, project management, and data analysis.
- Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion and accessibility, and a high degree of cultural awareness, sensitivity, and flexibility, including but not limited to race, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity, disability status, and socioeconomic status.
- Strong written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills in one-on-one interactions, group situations, and through presentations and events.
- Strong administrative and organizational skills with strong attention to detail.
- Proficiency in Google Suite and Microsoft Office and ability to use and learn other programs and systems as needed
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively with diverse colleagues in a fast-paced, dynamic, and entrepreneurial environment.
- Ability to handle complex issues with discretion and maintain confidentiality at all times.
- Ability to respond quickly to employee and leadership questions/inquiries, multitask, prioritize to meet tight deadlines, and work well under pressure while maintaining a positive attitude.
- While dedicated experience in DEIA work is preferred, passion for this work while maintaining a sense of the tangible goals that can be accomplished in a large and complex organization are vital.
