Job Description

 

The New York Times is looking for a experienced Director-level HR Business Partner to support and partner with employees and leaders across our corporate functions - Legal & Labor, Finance & Strategy, Safety & Security, Occupational Health, and Cybersecurity. Reporting to the VP, HR Business Partners, you will be a strategic advisor and lead HRBP to our Chief Legal Officer, CFO, and Chief Information Security Officer, and the departments that they lead. You will also manage a small HR team who supports the NYT Printing Plant.

This role is located in New York, NY and this role is eligible for a hybrid working schedule.

The Director, HRBP plays a critical role in driving a people strategy aligned with our mission. You will provide daily HR support for the leaders, managers and employees of your client groups, including guidance, management of the performance enablement cycle, and oversight of process/HR administration. As a trusted advisor and partner to client group leadership – and providing insights and perspective to HR and company leadership – you will identify issues and opportunities affecting the business, and offer practical ways to address them. You will use every interaction to role model our values and behaviors and support an equitable and inclusive culture.

Responsibilities:

  • Be a discrete advisor, partner, and coach to leaders, managers, and individual contributors 

  • Manage a small team of HRBPs who support the NYT Printing Plant

  • Provide support to department leaders, managers, and employees, including management of annual performance management/promotion processes, succession/talent programs, and oversight of process/HR administration

  • Partner with Centers of Excellence to develop and deliver impactful people initiatives.

  • Partner with leadership to monitor how business plans and industry trends may affect talent needs, HR priorities, and the way your client groups are organized or operate

  • Collaborate with the Talent Acquisition team on behalf of your client groups, partnering with recruiters, hiring managers, Compensation, Finance, and Ops leaders  

  • Support the diversity, equity, and inclusion strategy of The Times relative to your client groups

  • Work with HRIS to use relevant people metrics to identify insights that can shape departmental HR strategy and measure the impact of policies and programs

  • Partner with Employee Relations, Talent Management, and Legal teams to investigate and resolve employee relations issues, ensure regulatory compliance, and identify development needs for employees

  • Demonstrate support and understanding of our value of journalistic independence and a commitment to our mission to seek the truth and help people understand the world

Basic Qualifications:

  • 8+ years of increasing HR Business Partner experience in global creative environments managing a range of HR disciplines, including employee relations, employment law, talent management, compensation, and DEI

  • 5+ year
