The opportunity

Play a crucial role as a key partner to the EVP, Business Development, and the senior management team, to support our Pivot to Growth and Innovation goals.  This position involves developing relationships with Venture and Banking groups in the Healthcare industry, in particular those focused on therapeutic innovation in Neurosciences and Immunology.  The role includes overseeing the team's engagement in evaluating investment and partnership opportunities with early-stage companies, many of which are created by Venture firms. Teva may from time to time make seed or later series equity investments as stand alone or as part of deal structures, where the Venture Associate will provide key support. Furthermore, this role serves as a valuable learning opportunity for individuals interested in Business Development, acting as a steppingstone towards future roles such as a deal leader or alliance management. 

How you’ll spend your day

Location: The preferred location is Parsippany, NJ, with Boston, MA as an alternative, and West Chester, PA as a backup. The candidate must be able to travel frequently.
 

  • Coordinates engagement with Venture Capital firms, Healthcare Banking groups, and Private Equity Firms in healthcare.  
  • Will evaluate early-stage companies and makes recommendations for further evaluation and potential investments or licensing deals.
  • Works with leadership to develop and prioritize department plans to achieve the Business Development team’s vision and strategy, addressing issues and obstacles that impede progress toward achieving goals.
  • Acts as the interface with other functions to seek subject matter expertise to evaluate opportunities, especially scientific, clinical and commercial evaluation. 
  • Supports Business Development initiatives and external engagements, especially the JPM and BIO. 
  • Partners with the EVP, Business Development in organizing meetings with Venture Capital groups and Bankers, to review opportunities, an prepare reports, presentations, and/or papers to present to the Executive Management, Board, and CEO as required.
  • Drafts the agenda for follow up with the Biotech opportunities identified from the Venture Capital or Banker meetings.
  • Supports operational excellence activities together with the department leadership team.

Your experience and qualifications

  • Master’s degree or more required, with a strong understanding of seed and series A investing, along with a scientific background in drug development and commercialization.
  • Minimum 7 years experience related to R&D in biopharma and a strong understanding of the pharmaceutical industry. 
  • Strong relationship-building skills, able to influence internal and external stakeholders. This individual will be highly visible at all levels of the organization and must be able to build trust and credibility.
  • Intimate understanding of the pharmaceutical industry and third-party-partnered development is strongly preferred.
  • Strong written and communication skills, including presentation skills.
  • Substantive experience in Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Advanced principles and practices of program development, public speaking, program and project administration and management, including procurement and contract management.
  • Advanced principles and practices of project management.
  • Ability to build complex cross-group/department plans, drive, track, and report execution progress.
  • Proactive and collaborative, working cooperatively with other departments and key stakeholders internally and externally.
  • Techniques to work effectively under pressure, meet deadlines, and adjust to changing priorities.
  • Interpreting and administering policies and procedures sufficient to administer, discuss, resolve, and explain them to staff and other constituencies.
