Overview

As the Mobile Engineering Director, you’ll lead our mobile strategy, execution, and evolution, ensuring we ship high-quality, secure, and performant customer experiences at a rapid pace. You’ll be accountable for mobile delivery, quality, and technical direction across one or more teams. You’ll partner closely with Product, Design, Data, Backend, and cross-functional leadership to align mobile investments with company priorities, scale our mobile platform responsibly, and develop a strong bench of mobile engineering talent. What You'll Do

  • Own and drive the mobile org’s outcomes across delivery, quality, reliability, and technical direction, ensuring our iOS and Android apps consistently meet a high bar for customer experience and operational excellence.

  • Lead, grow, and retain a high-performing mobile organization by mentoring engineers and managers, building career ladders and development plans, and creating a culture of accountability, ownership, and urgency.

  • Set the mobile technical vision and roadmap in partnership with Product and Design leadership, balancing near-term product delivery with long-term platform investments (architecture, build systems, testing, observability, and developer experience).

  • Oversee mobile architecture and platform decisions, ensuring mobile systems are scalable, secure, maintainable, and aligned with broader engineering standards and long-term product goals.

  • Establish and continuously improve engineering operating mechanisms for mobile teams: planning, execution, resourcing, cross-team coordination, and stakeholder communication; to deliver complex, multi-quarter initiatives predictably.

  • Drive operational excellence for mobile, including release safety, incident readiness, on-call health, reliability practices, performance monitoring, and post-incident learning to reduce repeat issues and improve customer trust.

  • Build and scale the team through hiring and onboarding, maintaining a strong talent bar and inclusive culture while developing future technical and people leaders across the org.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience managing mobile engineering teams, including managing managers and/or leading multiple teams

  • 8+ years of hands-on experience building and shipping native mobile applications (iOS and/or Android) in production

  • Experience owning mobile strategy and execution for mission-critical applications at scale, with strong outcomes in reliability, performance, and release safety

  • Proven track record of leading organizations to deliver complex, cross-functional, multi-team initiatives

  • Strong people leadership skills with demonstrated success developing engineers and managers, building leadership bench strength, and scaling healthy teams

  • Fosters a culture of ownership, accountability, and urgency while maintaining high standards for quality and craft

  • Deep familiarity with incident management and on-call operations, including driving systemic improvements through retrospectives and operational metrics

  • Comfortable working in fast-paced, iterative environments with a bias for action and strong stakeholder management

  • Solid understanding of security, data privacy, and regulatory compliance, with the ability to translate requirements into pragmatic engineering practices
