Fixed term, full time, day worker (with on-call) position, working up to 76 hours per fortnight, commencing from as soon as possible for a three year period.

Who Are We Looking For?
We are seeking a motivated and experienced Clinical Director - Surgical and Perioperative to work for the Department of Health (DoH) across the North West region. This role will require the successful applicant to provide a high level of strategic leadership and direction, ensuring resources are efficiently utilised, services are effectively integrated within the hospital/service and the highest standards of service delivery are achieved in accordance with hospital/service policy directions, service standards and financial targets, in addition to direct clinical care.
Servicing a population of approximately 116,000, the DoH North West, has major sites, North West Regional Hospital (NWRH) and Mersey Community Hospital (MCH) located approximately 50km apart. The Department of Health – North West provides anaesthetic, general surgical and orthopaedic surgical services.
The anaesthetic service provides an on call and consultative service at the NWRH for all surgical and obstetric requirements including preadmission, in addition to providing anaesthetic services for all day surgical and preadmission services at the MCH. The current senior staffing consists of both full time and part time anaesthetists and in addition are accredited for registrar training with ANZCA.
The general surgical service provides an on call and consultative service at the NWRH for all general surgical requirements services in addition to a consultative and day surgical service at the MCH. The current senior staffing consists of full time and part time general surgeons, which also includes ENT and Urology services, with a supportive team of registrars (Austin trainees) and JMO’s.
The orthopaedic service provides both an on call and consultative service at the NWRH in addition to consultative services at the MCH, which includes orthopaedic day surgery cases. The current senior staffing consists of full time and part time orthopaedic surgeons with a supportive team of registrars and JMO’s.
This position will be attractive to highly skilled and motivated medical professionals who view challenges as opportunities and is driven by a passion to improve healthcare in the complex world of modern health systems. The right applicants will play a key role in developing health care at both patient and system levels. If you are General or Orthopaedic Surgeon or an Anaesthetist with solid generalist skills in your area and exposure to rural medicine, it would be beneficial.
The DoH offers a comprehensive undergraduate and graduate clinical training program, with close ties to the University of Tasmania through the Rural Clinical School. As such, you will be responsible for providing leadership and help with the delivery of the Undergraduate general medical education program.

Specialist Medical Practitioners
Specialist Medical Practitioner Level 1- Senior Specialist Medical Practitioner Level 3 $216,300 - $310,389 per annum, pro rata + 11.5% superannuation
