Position Summary:

Trupanion is seeking an ambitious and driven, critical-thinking individual to take on the challenge of risk mitigation and fraud analysis within the Claims Adherence Team. Candidates will be responsible for the accurate and timely review of high-risk situations, requiring impartial and unbiased investigation to support the Adherence Team’s primary functions of combating fraud relating to the claims process.

Candidates will make recommendations to support that insurance contracts are operating within the policy wording, and in line with jurisdictional Insurance Act(s). Candidates will collect, organize, and normalize data relating to high-risk situations, and execute Open Source Investigations. Candidates will write detailed reports, inclusive of direct supportive evidence, and present written recommendations to circumvent exposures and outright fraud.

Key Responsibilities Include:

  • Responsible for understanding & translating complex numerical and textual data into meaningful actions and communications.
  • Complete risk mitigation reviews, including fraud investigations and make informed recommendations to reduce exposure.
  • Ability to interpret and apply contractual wordings to claim eligibility and policy experience.
  • Proficient in data extraction, interpretation, and the ability to turn raw data into plain language and formal written report recommendations.
  • Working cross-functionally with key stakeholders to understand the concerns presented and offer recommendations to aid in reduced exposure to Trupanion.
  • Provide exceptional customer service to existing customers and third parties.
  • Contribute to team advancement and professional development.

Qualifications:

Education, Registration & Certification:

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred, equivalent experience accepted.
  • Preference for currently licensed property and casualty adjuster in Canada and/or the United States preferred, or ability to obtain within one year.
  • Preference will be given to individuals with formal education/certification in the fields of insurance operations, insurance fraud detection and investigation, risk management (credentials such as CIP, CPCU, CFE, CRM or equivalent obtained or in progress).

Experience:

  • Minimum three years’ experience related to P&C insurance preferred. (underwriter, actuary, data science, claims adjuster, fraud examiner ect.)
  • Minimum of two years of veterinary technician or assisting experience in a clinic/hospital environment.

Skills, Knowledge & Abilities:

  • Profound familiarity with insurance fundamental principles, insurance contract law & interpretation, and insurance fraud and privacy laws within Canada and/or the United States.
  • Advanced knowledge of veterinary practice operations, including proficiency in medical terminology and standard financial practices.
  • Ability to work creatively and adapt to shifting processes, demonstrating a desire to collaborate and contribute to the development of various processes over time.
  • Dynamic problem-solving abilities and the capacity to think critically in high-pressure situations.
  • Ability to work independently within a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficiency with Excel and Tableau in extracting, normalizing, and analyzing data, as well as planning case strategy and preparing formal reports.
  • Exceptional written skills, particularly in technical documentation.
  • Strong oral communication skills, including listening, interviewing, and negotiating, with the ability to adapt communication style to the audience.
  • Demonstrated organizational skills to effectively prioritize and manage conflicting priorities.
  • A proactive and positive approach to customer service, ensuring timely and effective resolution of inquiries.
  • Strong interpersonal skills for handling conflict and difficult situations.

Compensation:

  • The pay range for this position is $33.71 -$40.45 CAD an hour, on a full-time Monday - Friday schedule. Along with the base salary, Trup
