Job Summary:

Work Schedule: 35 hrs./wk., primarily evening hours and weekend coverage as needed.
Assist with the delivery of patient activities in the acute care psychiatric setting. Primary responsibilities include planning, organizing, and assisting with developing a diversified activity and recreational program.
Responsibilities:
Essential Functions
Interview process, observations, collaborating with the patient to assign an intervention and both 1:1 and group participation in order to plan care.
- Completion of Therapeutic Recreation (T.R.) assessments within 72 hrs of admission of all assigned programs.
Documents daily through anecdotal charting to monitor patients' progress on his or her assigned Therapeutic Recreation (TR) intervention and behaviors observed while participating in therapeutic recreation 1:1's and groups.
- Completion of daily anecdotal charting that reflects the Therapeutic Recreation (T.R.) intervention designed for that patient.
Attend scheduled multidisciplinary team meetings and provide Therapeutic Recreation intervention(s) information to a member of the team prior to the team meeting to be placed on the Multidisciplinary Treatment Plan.
- Completion of all multidisciplinary treatment plans with appropriate Therapeutic Recreation (T.R.) interventions and signature assigned to each patient's case load.
Schedules, coordinates and carries through consistently all Therapeutic Recreation groups and 1:1's assigned to case load.
- Groups and 1:1's are planned to provide opportunity for the patient to work on treatment plans, goal and interventions.
Provides appropriate care specific to the age of the patient.
- Conduct Therapeutic Recreation (T.R.) groups and 1:1's designed to meet individual's needs. Makes cost effective purchases and decisions for scope of therapy.
Maintains accountability for continued professional growth in order to maintain the knowledge and skills necessary to deliver quality patient care.
- Each therapist must obtain Continuing Education Units (CEU's) required for licensure.
Supervises pet therapy on unit.
Therapeutic Recreation Services
- Directs the planning and implementation of activities for all patients, in accordance with needs, capabilities, and provider order, to support excellence in patient care delivery.
- Management of human, fiscal and other resources to provide for efficient and cost-effective patient care.
- Develops and maintains policies and procedures to assure compliance with all regulatory agencies.
- Performs other position appropriate duties as required in a competent, professional and courteous manner.
Performs all other duties as assigned.
- Participates in in-service training and team meetings.
- Works together with other departments when they need help in program development or other issues related to recreational activities.
- Develops and maintains working relationships between Behavioral Health and other hospital departments and outside community agencies.
- Orients new staff members to recreational therapist role within Behavioral Health.
- Keeps Director of Behavioral Health informed of patient needs and community issues.
Performance Improvement
- Overall work performance is dedicated to meeting and exceeding the performance improvement standards for the department.
- Participates in department performance improvement program and projects.
Business Acumen
- Is vigilant to the day to day business fluctuations and responds promptly to re-prioritized assignments to fit the need.
