Position Summary:
The Assistant Director of Specialized Services, Low Incidence is a leader on the Academic team and drives Mastery’s approach for Specialized Services. The Assistant Director of Specialized Services (ADSS) role is to support Mastery Schools’ campuses in implementing and coordinating classrooms and initiatives that support our specialized student population. The ADSS will play a pivotal role in ensuring an effective connection exists between programs developed by the central office academic and specialized services teams and their implementation at schools. In addition, the ADSS will ensure that actionable data and information flows efficiently and quickly between schools and central office functions. The ADSS will primarily support in schools directly with teacher coaching, leader coaching, and individual student planning. Additional ongoing projects including curriculum development, program development, resource identification and training. The ADSS will report directly to the Director of Specialized Services, Low Incidence

Essential Job Functions:

• Supports the organizational vision for Special Education AP and Teacher development based on a strong foundation of best practices in Special Education aligned to both Federal and State guidelines under IDEA.
• Proactively learns best practices in Special Education specifically for students with Low Incidence disabilities and Autism.
• Supports high quality implementation of special education services within Low Incidence Programs.
• Provides coaching and support to teachers, leaders and families around individualized implementation of best practices.
• Collect, Analyze, and share out network specialized services data, and makes adjustments to programming recommendations based on data.
• Research, purchase and/or develop classroom resources, curriculum and equipment specifically for specialized services classrooms and the needs of students.
• Coordinate, develop and present professional development for specialized services staff throughout the year as well as onboarding training at the beginning of the year
• Support schools in administering state mandated assessments to students across the network

Other Job Functions:

• Manage a variety of projects at the school and network level, as needed
• Support and model all aspects of programming not limited to academic instruction, toileting, functional skill practice and modeling, community support, family meetings, Community based instruction, etc.
• Other duties as may be required to ensure central office supports are effective and our schools and students are successful

Qualifications:

• An expert in Special Education, including strong knowledge of Disabilities, Learning and Instruction, the IEP Process, and IEP Implementation
• An expert in State and Federal Laws under IDEA.
• Strong experience working with students with Low Incidence disabilities and Autism, K-12 and transitioning into Adult Services.
• Possess a ferocious desire to provide our students with a world class education.
• Have strong experience analyzing and interpreting data.
• Experience writing and developing IEPs, PBSPs, and evaluating FBAs, and/or other state mandated and content specific plans, specific to students with Low Incidence disabilities.
• Ability to write instructional and compliance manuals and other supplemental documents
• Have strong communication and interpersonal skills – exceptionally high emotional intelligence.
• Be detail-oriented and highly organized with strong analytical writing skills.
• Have experienced a high level of measurable success working with urban youth.
• Thrives in a high-accountability, fast-paced environment.
