Job Description Summary
The Principal Nuclear Fuel Production Engineer - will be responsible for the development and integration of nuclear fuel products from the design phase The Principal Nuclear Fuel Production Engineer - will be responsible for the development and integration of nuclear fuel products from the design phase through production and ultimate delivery of Global Nuclear Fuels (GNF) products to customers. This role requires providing technical leadership and mentoring to the Fuel and Packaging Design Team and the broader engineering organization. Additionally, this role requires providing technical leadership to a broad range of stakeholders external to the engineering team including suppliers, sourcing, supplier quality, manufacturing operations, manufacturing quality, and the commercial team. The Principal Nuclear Fuel Production Engineer will demonstrate accountability for functional, business, and broad company objectives of Boiling Water Reactor (BWR) fuel products and integrate BWR fuel designs with the supply chain and production process. This role contributes to the overall strategy and manages complex issues within the BWR Fuel design and production processes.Job Description
Essential Responsibilities:
- Identify, develop, evaluate, and introduce engineering solutions to meet near term and long-range business and customer interests in BWR fuel products
- Provide technical consultation on BWR fuel products throughout the business
- Lead and provide the key technical direction to large projects with critical business impact.
- Drive collaboration amongst manufacturing, procurement, regulatory affairs, quality and commercial organizations during development and deployment of BWR fuel products
- Support other GE Vernova (GEV) businesses, internal and external customers, and suppliers as required.
- Provide technical consultation to cross-functional teams throughout the business to improve or resolve manufacturing, product center, supplier, or field issues
- Effectively communicate and provide recommendations through the design, analysis, preparation, and presentation of technical data to internal and external GEV customers using reports, records, and letters.
- Provide technical guidance, direction and training to new and experienced, design, analysis, and materials engineers, specialists, technicians, and co-ops. Mentor individuals in the cross-functional nature of fuel design and production.
- Lead mechanical design solutions to support the development of new products & design modifications to improve existing products from design concept through production and final delivery
- Lead the alignment of fuel designs and practices with fabrication processes for component and assemblies, the post fabrication transportation and handling and the customer application requirements for fuel products and services
- Identify, document and lead the resolution of technical risks within each project
- Lead and perform design reviews and production readiness reviews
- Lead the resolution of emergent customer and manufacturing issues
- Collaborate with sourcing and manufacturing to lead cost reduction activities
- Develop procedures and work to improve engineering productivity
- Provide technical guidance and leadership to the team technical leader(s) and functional manager to plan and execute projects
- Perform work with high quality in accordance with NRC regulations, customer requirements, and business quality assurance standards
Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor of Science in Engineering, Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, or Computer Science
- At least 10 additional years of experience in an engineering capacity
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in BWR fuel mechanical design, product development, testing, and licensing
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in a manufacturing or production environment
Eligibility Requirements:
- The required work location for this role is at the GNF Headquarters in Wilmington, NC
- This role is restricted to U.S. persons (i.e., U.S. citizens, permanent residents, and other protected individuals under the Immigration and Naturalization Act, 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3)) due to access to U.S. export-controlled technology. GE will require proof of U.S. person status prior to employment.
