About the role

Occupational Summary

 

The Office of Corporate Cash Management (CCM) serves Duke University and the Duke University Health System (DUHS). The Assistant Director, Cash Analysis & Technology provides technical and analytical expertise in corporate cash metrics and analytics, banking functionality, and treasury technology. This position reports to the Assistant Treasurer and collaborates with key administrative, accounting, and financial personnel in the University and DUHS, as well as external banking and technology consultants.

 

Work Performed

 

  • Corporate Cash Metrics Development and Analysis:

    • Analyze corporate liquidity and leverage metrics such as days cash on hand.
    • Evaluate the performance and structure of the multi-billion-dollar central bank managed in CCM.
    • Monitor internal cash ownership, restrictions, and cash flow trends at University, management center, and departmental levels.
    • Assess bank fees and service charges for industry appropriateness and contract alignment; make recommendations balancing services with associated costs.
    • Track internal CCM volume statistics to support workflow and workload balancing.
  • Advancing Treasury Technology:

    • Identify, research, and implement a Treasury Management System (TMS) to link banking information with the ERP system and modernize corporate cash management at Duke and DUHS.
    • Investigate banking technologies and collaborate with Administrative Systems Management to integrate these with SAP.
  • Cash Projections:

    • Develop complex cash projections using the TMS, partnering with Duke Finance departments to collect pertinent data.
    • Interpret and summarize results to identify current and future trends and present findings to senior Treasury leadership.
  • Faculty Loan Program Accounting:

    • Manage all accounting transactions related to the Duke University faculty loan program.
    • Prepare calendar year-end tax reports in coordination with the Office of Counsel, Corporate Tax Office, and various schools and departments.
  • Personnel Supervision:

    • Supervise the Level 14 Senior Cash Analyst, ensuring the accurate completion of daily and monthly responsibilities.
    • Develop training plans to enhance personnel exposure to financial information managed by Duke Finance departments.
  • Continuous Improvement:

    • Foster an environment of continuous improvement by reviewing key work processes regularly to identify opportunities for automation and streamlining.
    • Implement changes to improve accuracy and timeliness in services delivered to Duke departments and colleagues.

 

Preferred Qualifications at this Level

 

Education/Training

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business Administration, Finance, or a directly related field.
  • Advanced degree or professional certification (e.g., CPA, CTP) preferred.
  • Experience with SAP is desirable.

 

Experience

  • Seven (7) years of experience in a financial accounting office, with the ability to review, analyze, and manage complex financial data.
  • Cash management or banking experience is preferred. OR An equivalent combination of relevant education and/or experience.

 

Skills

  • Highly motivated with excellent organizational, planning, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently and monitor work over extended periods without direct supervision.
  • Outstanding oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to interact seamlessly with a broad constituency in a tactful, collegial, and diplomatic manner.
  • Proven leadership abilities and superior judgment.

Minimum Qualifications

 

 

Education

Work requires a Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, Business Administration or a related field. CPA is desirable.

 

Experience

 

Work requires a minimum of six years experience in financial OR AN EQUIVALENT COMBINATION OF RELEVANT EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE management, cost accounting or a field directly relatedto specialized area of assignment.
