SUMMARY: The Kitchen Assistant participates as part of the Early Childhood Education programs within the Children’s Services Division to prepare and serve meals and snacks in accordance with USDA and MA ServSafe standards.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Organize and maintain food storage areas.
  • Examine food for quality and expiration.
  • Maintain daily cleanliness and operation of kitchen equipment.
  • Clean and sanitize toys at the end of the day.
  • Prepare food in accordance with USDA and MA ServSafe standards.
  • Maintain a current list of student allergens and prepare an alternate meal if necessary.
  • Inspect dishes, silverware, pots, pans, etc. for cleanliness prior to storage.
  • Participate in all staff meetings and required training sessions, including in-service training, as scheduled.
  • Maintain all program and Agency required trainings.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Current ServSafe Certification
  • Skill in interacting appropriately with children, clients, and staff.
  • Knowledge of USDA and local health and food service regulations.
  • Qualifying criminal background check upon hire and every three years. Driver’s license is preferred but not required.
  • Ability to provide health records and any required follow-up documentation, if applicable, upon hire and every two years.
