Job Description

The Retail Grocery team is undertaking a 0 to 1 initiative to win in the grocery sub-vertical. Square for Retail started 6 years ago, with the premise that Square would be more successful with more complex Retail stores if we had a dedicated Point-of-Sale offering for Retail, with support for complex Inventory Management, Ordering and Checkout workflows.

We are initiating a new team dedicated to Grocery to address the more specific requirements of these types of retailers. We will develop software and hardware support for quicker and more complex checkout and inventory management for companies with large catalogs and perishable products. This is a new team with 5 engineers (3 Android, 1 iOS, 1 Fullstack). This is an exciting opportunity for Retail and we expect that in the future this team will continue to grow.

As a software engineer on the Grocery team, you will work with engineers across technical stacks, as well as cross-functionally with our product and design partners to build great user experiences. You will be contributing to a large and complex Android codebase, and have the opportunity to be mentored by senior engineers across Retail org.

You Will:

• Develop for our custom Android hardware - Square Register - with dual displays;
• Be a part of creating an innovative product that brings superpowers to sellers;
• Build and test client software with complex server, network and hardware interactions;
• Craft pixel-perfect, intuitive UI that delights our sellers with its ease of use;
• Work with a world-class team of experienced and dedicated engineers, product managers and designers;
• Deliver features to our growing base of subscribers, shipped at a rapid cadence

Qualifications

You Have: 

• ​2+ years of Android development experience, and an excellent command of engineering fundamentals.  We’re hiring at multiple levels of experience so if Retail sounds interesting to you, don’t hesitate to apply

Additional Information

Block takes a market-based approach to pay, and pay may vary depending on your location. U.S. locations are categorized into one of four zones based on a cost of labor index for that geographic area. The successful candidate’s starting pay will be determined based on job-related skills, experience, qualifications, work location, and market conditions. These ranges may be modified in the future.

Zone A: USD $152,100 - USD $185,900
Zone B: USD $144,500 - USD $176,700
Zone C: USD $136,900 - USD $167,300
Zone D: USD $129,300 - USD $158,100
