Flexport is hiring a Senior Engineering Manager to lead the Order Management engineering team. This team owns and builds the product that provides our customers with unprecedented supply chain visibility at the order and product level, the ability to address supply chain bottlenecks with proactive exception management, and seamless on-platform collaboration with their trade partners. Order Management sits at the core of Flexport’s mission to make global trade easy for everyone.

The opportunity:

The Order Management  team strives to simplify the complexities of global trade through an intuitive, data rich, and elegant experience for customers that have complex and diversified supply chains.Through building powerful APIs to delightful UIs, we ensure our customers get the right information at the right time. This powerful data allows our clients to act quickly, minimize disruptions and unplanned costs, and drive supply chain efficiencies.  The digital experience built by this team can manage a customer's entire supply chain, from order inception to final delivery. Order Management provides visibility and control beyond the four walls of a company; connects brands with factories, trade agents, and suppliers; and enables real-time collaboration for just-in-time production and delivery. Flexport Order Management allows our customers to manage and optimize what they care about most, their products. 

You will manage a highly technical, customer-obsessed, product-minded team of engineers and managers that work on technology that power our direct customer experience.  You will partner with a talented product, design, and data engineering teams to build products that innovate and simplify global trade.  You will work in a globally distributed organization, with partner teams in China and Europe, ensuring a high quality product across the globe. The ideal candidate loves simplifying complexity through intuitive experiences, for customers and developers alike.

Our Order Management team is delivering an exciting vision to enable customers to manage their supply chain regardless of the provider, down to the individual product and SKU level. Come help us make global trade easy for everyone through an intuitive, integrated user experience.

You will:

• Manage and mentor a team of managers and engineers on their career journey. 
• Work closely with our business partners and product managers to distill complex business problems into intuitive technical solutions.
• Provide technical leadership through the full product lifecycle from technical design, delivery, and operational excellence.
• Drive architectural direction as we break the Order Management module into its own, independent yet connected Supply Chain Product.
• Describe, analyze, and decide major technical tradeoffs and decisions 
• Inspire your team to deliver exceptional technology products to our customers
• Recruit a diverse team of managers and engineers from sourcing to closing.

You should have:

• 10+ years of experience writing software
• Bring at least 4+ years of experience managing highly productive teams of 10+ engineers and managers
• A love of simple, well-tested code that is easy to extend and hard to break.
• Be invigorated by mentoring and growing managers and engineers
• Work with a high level of autonomy and responsibility for your team, but are skilled to influence and partner with adjacent teams
• Have experience building complex B2B products with a passion for consumer experiences
• Embrace deeply complex domains and the art of simplifying them for multiple personas.
• Have experience building, operating and managing complex distributed systems
• Enjoy and take ownership of recruiting diverse team members, who thrive in solving complex problems over the long term
• Display strong written and verbal communication skills

Our stack:

Our continuous releases are integrated with Buildkite and Github. On the frontend, we create our views with React + Next.js, manage the flow of data with GraphQL/Relay, and test our application with Jest. On the backend, we’re in the process of decoupling our monolithic Rails app into a Micro Services architecture, primarily on JVM languages (Java and Kotlin). Our data is persisted in the right store for the job, typically Postgresql or MongoDB. Our stack is hosted on AWS using Kubernetes. You will be responsible for creating the right architecture for the Order Management team.
