Clinical Services Nurse - Registered Nurse - Pediatric Plastic Surgery

Job Location – Duke University Hospital

 

Job Hours

1.0 FTE position, Monday-Friday, 8am – 5pm.

 

Job Summary

The Pediatric Plastic Surgery Clinical Service Nurse collaborates with members of the healthcare team to enhance patient care by providing evidence-based clinical care and patient / family education to patients with complex urologic problems.  The Clinical Service Nurse is a dynamic and positive role model for nursing staff. 

 

Job Duties and Responsibilities

1. Phone calls
   1. Triage post-operative questions or concerns
   2. Triage non-surgical questions or concerns
   3. Troubleshoot management of surgical concerns
   4. Provide results to patients (e.g. labs, imaging)
   5. Follow-up with patient results (e.g. labs, imaging)
   6. Follow-up with DME companies (re: supplies)
   7. Assist with medical/supply refills
2. Paperwork
   1. Supplies (communicating with DME companies)
      1. Certified letters of medical necessity (CMNs), written standard orders
   2. Patient letters and forms (accommodations re: surgery, management)
      1. FMLA paperwork
   3. School forms
   4. Prior Authorizations
      1. Starting, completing, and following up
      2. Communicating with pharmacies
      3. Communicating with insurance providers
3. Procedures
   1. Post-operative suture removal
   2. Post-operative catheter removal
4. Patient Family/Education
5. Provider Education
   1. Post-operative care of surgical patients for nurses in DCT
   2. Clinic flow/triage/troubleshooting for nurses in CHC
6. Clinic Duties
   1. Review reasons for visits with patient/family and communicate delays when providers occupied
   2. Schedule, change, and cancel appointments as needed
   3. Schedule, change, and cancel ORs as needed
   4. Pre-operative teaching
   5. Organizing and scheduling pre-operative testing for patients as needed
   6. Placing orders
   7. Assisting with medication refills

 

Job Eligibility Requirements

Education    

• Graduate of an accredited BSN program

License     

• Current unrestricted RN license issued by or recognized by the NCBON

Certification 

• Prefer RNs with CPN

Experience

• Minimum 12 months applicable RN clinical experience is required

 

OR equivalent combination of relevant education and/ or experience

 

Physical and mental requirements:

• Knowledge of profe
