Position Overview

Are you up for the challenge? Joliet Treatment Center is looking for an energetic candidate to serve as the Confidential Assistant to the Warden. This position performs highly confidential, sensitive administrative tasks, while overseeing the facility personnel office. In addition, the successful candidate serves as the facility Employee Review Board Hearing Officer. The ideal candidate should be a self-motivated, organized individual with strong interpersonal communication skills with the ability to maintain strict confidentiality with a variety of issues which impact the agency’s operations and programs. Experience in a corrections like atmosphere is beneficial. We look forward to you being an integral part of the Administrative Team, working with staff at the institution level as well as staff at the Department of Corrections. Essential Functions

  • Serves as Employee Review Hearing Officer.
  • Serves as confidential assistant performing duties which are confidential, sensitive and controversial in nature and which have a direct impact on the creditability of agency operations and programs.
  • Serves as Labor Relations Coordinator and liaison, making sensitive and controversial recommendations relating to labor relations issues.
  • Serves as full line supervisor.
  • Serves as Public Information Officer for Joliet Treatment Center.
  • Assists with American Correctional Association (ACA) accreditation.
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Requires knowledge, skill and mental development equivalent to completion of four (4) years of college, preferably with courses in public or business administration.
  • Requires two (2) years of professional experience in a public or private organization.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prefers at least one (1) year of implementing an employee discipline process at a public or private organization.
  • Prefers at least one (1) year of working experience in a correctional setting.
  • Prefers at least two (2) years of experience implementing personnel and labor relations policies and practices.
  • Prefers at least one (1) year of professional experience communicating and interacting with management, representatives of government, private industry, and the public.
  • Prefers at least one (1) year of experience of working with and maintaining confidential information.
  • Prefers at least one (1) year of experience scheduling appointments and meetings.
  • Prefers at least one (1) year of professional experience working with databases, spreadsheets, and word processing software.
  • Prefers at least one (1) year of professional experience researching and gathering information to respond to letters, phone calls, and inquiries from the public, public or private entities, and the media.
