Job Description

The Associate Director of Philanthropy identifies and cultivates prospective donors from communities within the hospital/clinic’s service territory for the purpose of soliciting major gifts. The Associate Director nurtures donor relationships through regular contact, communication, and recognition, andd evelops and maintains relationships with hospital-affiliated Shriners Temples and the community for the purpose of fundraising. They are responsible for following and fulfilling the objectives and goals disseminated by Shriners Children’s national and local boards, as well as the Executive Director of Location Philanthropy and Chief Philanthropy Officer. The position requires the willingness and ability to travel as needed and occasionally work evenings and weekends when necessary.

Key Responsibilities:

Fundraising

  • Demonstrates a knowledge of and ability to build relationships with and obtain gifts from corporations, foundations, and individuals.

  • Assists in developing, building, and maintaining a comprehensive hospital and clinic-based philanthropy program focused on major gifts, planned gifts, annual giving, and corporate and foundation giving.

  • Responsible for implementing long and short-range operational plans developed by the senior director to strengthen and grow major gifts and planned giving programs.

  • Possesses a basic knowledge of ways to make planned gifts, including bequests, Charitable Gift Annuities (CGAs), and gifts of stock, real property, etc.

  • Assists in developing solicitation priorities and donor/prospect visitation schedules for the top-level staff and volunteer board members.

  • Demonstrates a solid performance record for closing major gifts at levels of five figures and higher.

  • Identifies, cultivates, and stewards prospect relationships through personal visits and written and oral communication for the purpose of obtaining fundraising gifts to support Shriners Children’s (SC).

  • Plans and implements “moves management” strategies for identification, cultivation, timely solicitation, and stewardship of prospects to increase their level of support.

  • Identifies and researches new and prospective donors.

  • Collaborates with senior director of philanthropy, and director of philanthropy, if applicable, in major donor cultivation and special events.

  • Supports events such as Walks for Love, fundraising galas, telethons, and other location-specific events using ClassyLive.

  • Support headquarters-lead digital and direct mail campaigns to ensure the location properly leverages these opportunities.

Administrative Duties

  • Works closely with leadership in responding to strategic hospital and corporate institutional priorities by meeting annual donor activity and philanthropic revenue goals.

  • Mentors, and trains hospital/clinic-based staff including stewardship coordinators, philanthropy assistants, or other roles within the location’s philanthropy team.

  • Responsible for providing required reports promptly to the senior director.

  • Ensure records of all donor-related activities and gifts are recorded accurately and timely in SC’s Blackbaud CRM database.

  • Acts as the primary contact for in-kind gifts in collaboration with other hospital/clinic departments including child life, human resources, facilities, etc.
