Akron General’s Operating Room (O.R.) department has a team of dedicated caregivers that work collaboratively to provide the best possible care for their surgical patients. These caregivers are eager and excited to add an Experienced Registered Nurse (RN) to their team. As an RN, you will deliver exceptional care, throughout the patient care journey. In this role, you will interact directly with patients and their families, offering the opportunity to enhance their experience and provide healthcare education as needed. RNs scrub and circulate through each service line during a 6-month orientation period and can complete extra rotations on specialty call teams to gain proficiency and join the team.

A caregiver in this position works PRN (as needed) varying shifts. You must work 48 hours within a six week period.
A caregiver who excels in this role will:
- Provide nursing care in an operative setting to patients undergoing surgical or invasive procedures.
- Perform scrub functions including the selection and handling of instruments and supplies used during procedure.
- Perform circulating functions including monitoring, recording and communicating patient condition and managing overall nursing care of patient before, during and after procedure.
- Prepare the OR, surgical instruments and equipment for use.
Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
- Graduate from an accredited school of professional nursing (Diploma, ADN or BSN program)
- Current state licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN)
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross within 6 months of hire
- Internal applicants: one year of recent related clinical experience
- External applicants: two years of recent related clinical experience
Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)
- Operating Room nursing experience
Physical Requirements:
- Requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting patients, manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination.
- Requires standing and walking for extensive periods of time.
- Medium Work - Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Physical Demand requirements are in excess of those for Light Work.
