ChristianaCare is currently recruiting a Pharmacy Intern to work full time hours during the Summer of 2025. Please see below for Education and Experience Requirements for this position.
PRIMARY FUNCTION:
As a Pharmacy Intern, you will achieve accelerated professional competence through exposure to the technical and clinical aspects of acute care pharmacy practice.
PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Participate on medical rounds with clinical pharmacist and assess patient’s drug regimens for drug-drug interactions, renal dose adjustments, allergies, medication omissions or therapeutic duplication.
• Analyze the pharmacokinetics and levels of medications for patients on therapies requiring therapeutic drug monitoring
• Develop knowledge on specific disease states and guidelines that help to direct evidence-based treatment
• Assist with obtaining medication histories and providing patients medication education
• Enhance presentation skills through formal and informal patient cases, journal clubs or pharmacy staff education
• Collect, organize and evaluate data on medication use for Medication Use Evaluations (MUEs)
• Assist pharmacy administrators and staff in completing departmental projects
• Exposure to the practical aspects of hospital pharmacy practice through projects, technician shadowing and assisting technical staff
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
- High School Diploma required
- Entering second professional year or later of an ACPE accredited Pharm.D. program
- Desire to pursue a career in hospital pharmacy practice
- Previous hospital pharmacy experience preferred; other pharmacy experience will be considered
- Computer experience preferred (e.g. window based programs)
- Basic typing skills
