POSITION TITLE: Facilities Associate-Custodian

POSITION CLASSIFICATION:

LOCATION: Franklin County

STATUS: Non-Exempt

SUPERVISOR: Director of Facilities


POSITION SUMMARY

Under the direction of the Director Facilities, the Facilities Associate/Custodian is responsible for the general maintenance and/or minor repairs to all agency facilities, grounds, and equipment and maintaining a clean, healthy and safe environment in work areas in all other areas of the assigned building.  


ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

FACILITIES:

  1. Oversee projects under the direction of the Director of Facilities
  2. Perform daily tasks in response to maintenance requests and scheduled work orders. 
  3. Perform regular site inspections of Head Start sites and other agency sites.
  4. Perform general repairs to walls, doors, locks, windows, office equipment, flooring, and miscellaneous agency equipment in and around agency facilities
  5. Coordinate and/or move desks, files, furniture, office equipment, and other items as requested 
  6. Perform routine preventive maintenance on agency buildings, equipment, motor vehicles, and utility systems on a scheduled basis
  7. Perform general grounds maintenance work including mowing of lawns, raking, pruning, landscaping, and snow removal.
  8. Maintain routine records and make reports as required utilizing the facilities database
  9. Maintain organization and cleanliness of maintenance facility, work vehicle, tools for performance integrity, and project sites in conjunction with other facilities staff 
  10. Perform all work in a neat, safe, energy conscious and professional manner
  11. Monitor and report all equipment, system and work site safety concerns to the Director of Facilities.
  12. Work with local building inspectors to secure occupancy and other required permits to operate Head Start/Early Head Start and Child Care facilities according to all regulations.
  13. Assist with expansion or relocation of services by preparing any new site for occupancy.
  14. Schedule vendors and contractors as needed for HVAC, electric, plumbing, custodial, and other identified needs.
  15. Create job scope specifications, bid, organize, and oversee any minor renovations.

CUSTODIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Empty all trash receptacles and replace plastic liner bags in bathrooms, kitchen and office areas.   
  2. Sweep and/or vacuum all floors and stairways.
  3. Clean and disinfect bathroom floors, toilets, sinks and walls.
  4. Replenish paper supplies and soaps as needed.
  5. Store all cleaning tools and chemicals in a safe and secure area.
  6. Monitor the site for general cleanliness, maintaining upkeep, and advising supervisor of any problems.
  7. Monitor inventory for supplies for each site; order as needed.
  8. Specific tasks, checklists, and timelines will be established at each site
  9. Responsibilities to be completed as needed:
  • Disinfect trash receptacles.
  • Disinfect all door handles and railings.
  • Clean/dust moldings, walls, and woodwork, then wash.
  • Wash windows/window sills

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Maintains strictest confidentiality. 
  2. Comply with agency and funders’ paperwork requirements and procedures 
  3. Attend regularly scheduled supervision meetings, team meetings, mandatory agency trainings, and participate in professional development activities. 
  4. Performs related work as required.

Requirements

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS

  • High school diploma or High School Equivalency.
  • Five to seven years’ related experience, including experience with small to medium sized building renovations
  • Experience with non-residential cleaning is preferred
  • Experience using cleaning supplies and equipment
  • Working knowledge of maintenance supplies, equipment, materials, and methods used to perform routine repairs and installations
  • Additional appropriate education may be substituted for work experience or additional directly related work experience may be substituted for education

SKILLS REQUIRED

  • Basic computer skills: using a mouse, email, Microsoft office
  • Excellent verbal (in-person and phone) and written communication skills
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Excellent customer service to employees, supervisors, and vendors
  • Must be able to work intuitively and independently as part of the Facilities team
