The Opportunity:

The Facilities Operations Department within Facilities and Business Operations is seeking to hire a Maintenance Tech II, High Performance Work Team. This role is responsible for providing essential support for the operational maintenance and sanitation of campus buildings to provide a safe, functional, clean, efficient, and attractive living and learning environment. The position is responsible for troubleshooting issues and providing service for and responding to customer and staff requests. The employee must have basic maintenance repair skills and perform basic housekeeping tasks at this level.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform scheduled preventive maintenance (PM) tasks and corrective repairs (PMR) based on issues identified during PM or reported by users.

  • This includes basic repairs in areas such as plumbing, electrical, painting, and carpentry.

  • Maintain and replace light bulbs, HVAC filters, ceiling tiles, and service plumbing fixtures (e.g., unclogging drains).

  • Assist with basic custodial tasks, including vacuuming floors, cleaning windows, and removing trash to maintain a clean and orderly environment.

  • Support work performed by central shops, contractors, other zones, departments, or during campus events.

  • Perform corrective work to restore equipment or spaces to proper working conditions.

  • Complete work orders on time, documenting labor hours, action codes, shop stock, and trade notes.

  • Report any conditions that require further attention to your supervisor and update the status of work orders as needed.

  • Create work orders for unassigned repairs identified during the shift.

Minimum Qualifications:

Completion of an approved apprenticeship program for multiple trades and 3 years of relevant experience; or a high school diploma and 3 years of relevant experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience pursuant to Fla. Stat. 112.219.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 3+ years of experience performing general building maintenance.

  • Basic knowledge of custodial cleaning techniques and chemicals.

  • Experience working in a campus, institutional, medical, hospitality, or similar environment, with an understanding of facility operations and maintenance procedures.

  • Experience with inventory management, including tracking materials and tools.

  • Ability to operate and maintain maintenance tools and equipment safely and effectively.

  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot a variety of facility-related issues independently.

  • Able to communicate effectively with customers and team members, operate electronic equipment (iPad for Integrated Work Management Systems PM checkpoints), comprehend standard safety procedures, and utilize telecommunication devices.

  • Knowledge of safety protocols and the ability to adhere to safety standards in all aspects of maintenance work.

  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team, managing multiple tasks with a high level of organization.

  • Familiarity with building automation systems and Integrated Work Management Systems (IWMS).

Health Assessment Required:  

UCF policy requires completion and passing of a physical exam for this position.

Special Instructions to the Applicants:

New hires selected for this position at the University of Central Florida can expect to be offered the base salary amount for the role. Compensation is determined in alignment with UCF’s pay structure and internal equity considerations.

Position requires a valid Class E driver’s license. The position may involve driving to various locations on and off campus to conduct University business.
