Position Summary:
The Maintenance Assistant reports directly to the Maintenance Manager and plays a vital role in assisting the maintenance team in the daily execution of repair, fabrication, and installation tasks. This position is responsible for supporting fabrication activities, basic maintenance functions, and general labor tasks to ensure safe, clean, and efficient operations in the plant. The Helper will also be trained on food safety standards and expected to contribute to the organization’s high standards for quality and safety.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support mechanics by handing tools, holding materials in place, and performing cleanup after tasks.
- Operate basic material handling equipment under supervision, including forklifts.
- Perform general labor tasks such as sweeping, organizing tools, cleaning work areas.
- Assist in transporting tools, equipment, and materials to work locations.
- Follow Lockout-Tagout (LOTO) procedures as instructed during maintenance work.
- Shadow and support maintenance team in routine inspections, repairs, and preventive maintenance activities as needed.
- Assist operations and production by driving items between sites and picking up from vendors as needed.
- Attend safety and food safety training sessions as required.
- Assist in parts organization and stocking
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
Education and Experience
- High school or GED
- 1 year of experience in industrial environment
- Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to stand, walk, and bend throughout the shift.
- Must be able to climb stairs and ladders.
- Ability to climb stairs and ladders and work at heights up to 80 ft
Skills and Competencies:
- Basic understanding of tools preferred.
- Willingness to learn maintenance skills through on-the-job training.
- Ability to drive company trucks and tow trailers.
- Able to follow written and verbal instructions in English.
- Strong work ethic and desire to contribute to team success.
- Ability to follow safety and cleanliness procedures consistently.
Working Conditions:
- Willing to work outdoors or in variable temperatures.
- Availability to work overtime, weekends, and holidays as needed.
- Must wear appropriate PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) at all times.
- Willing to work in a loud, dusty, and industrial environment and adapt to changing priorities.
