Job Summary:The Arizona Department of Corrections, Rehabilitation, and Reentry (ADCRR) is reimagining the role of Arizona Correctional Industries (ACI).
With the state needing to fill upwards of 400,000 jobs by 2030, ACI is envisioning, planning, and directing career and workforce development opportunities for currently incarcerated individuals in preparation to fill the state's workforce needs while improving the long-term success of individuals with correctional involvement.
The Deputy Assistant Director will be pivotal in supporting ACI’s Chief of Workforce Development in pursuing the new direction of ACI. In addition to serving as a leader, mentor, and coach to all staff across ACI, the Deputy Assistant Director will have oversight responsibility of sales, marketing, contracted vendors, and customer relations, ensuring the advancement of job training under a unified direction and in collaboration with the Division of Education, Programs, and Community Reentry (EPCR).
In addition to managerial duties, the Deputy Assistant Director of ACI will supervise subordinate employees, evaluate work products, approve leave, and engage in disciplinary actions as necessary. The role requires active involvement with staff inside prisons and the community in executive-level meetings, multidisciplinary work teams, and training sessions, contributing to ADCRR's overall strategic objectives. Effective leadership skills and the ability to represent the agency in community events are essential for success in this position.
This position contributes to the Arizona State Retirement System (ASRS) and involves occasional travel and driving on State business.
This position reports to ACI’s Chief of Workforce Development.
The Deputy Assistant Director will subscribe to the Arizona Department of Corrections, Rehabilitation, and Reentry vision and mission. This requires centering the work and leadership of ACI in the four overarching mission-centered goals, which include a commitment to:
Building a meaningful organizational culture and promoting the development of the team.
Creating and implementing optimal population management and progression strategies.
Deploying quality services and continuity of care in prison complexes and community corrections.
Achieving modernized and sustainable practices and resources.
Primary responsibilities include:
General Leadership of ACI and Associated Employees, Inmates, and Partners to Include:
- Serve as the second in charge of ACI under the direction of the Chief of Workforce Development.
- Support the leadership and management of ACI, at the discretion of the Chief of Workforce Development, including business and sales functions, implementation, and expansion of inmate workforce development programs, opportunities, and services.
- Participate in the management of the ACI budget in collaboration with ACI’s Chief of Workforce Development and the CFO.
- Assist in contract management.
- Assist in developing and implementing policies and procedures for ACI and ADCRR, as well as Arizona and federal laws.
- Provide administrative leadership, ensuring the completion of necessary reports.
- Participate in executive-level meetings, multidisciplinary teams, councils, and/or advisory committees, and represent the agency at events and/or publicly as directed by the Chief of Workforce Development.
Supervise subordinate employees, providing work reviews, staff evaluations, and general HR functions associated with direct staff oversight.
