Summary

Job Description

As a Data Management Advisor (Principal Associate)  in Capital One’s EDRM team you will apply your analytical, data management, and process management skills to understand data management practices in the business, and identify data management risks. To do this, you will collaborate with your EDRM team and partner with stakeholders as you review the business’s data management controls, practices, testing outcomes, reporting, and more. You will proactively source and leverage a wide range of resources and analysis to develop grounded insights related to data risk, and you’ll work closely with your team to shape these insights into actionable challenges and risk storytelling.

Data Management Advisors in EDRM are highly motivated Data Management and Risk professionals with excellent analytical and problem-solving skills. They are proactive learners who seek to understand the current data management environment so they can best advise their partners and teammates. They have experience getting hands-on with data to spot trends and solve problems. As Capital One evolves to meet the ever-changing technology landscape, so do our Data Management Advisors. They operate from a foundation of knowledge and a natural passion for managing risk with excellent project, process and analytical skills.  They are forward thinking, quick to adapt, and technologically adept.

Specific responsibilities of the Data Management Advisor (Principal Associate) include and are not limited to:

  • Continuously dive deep into reporting, metrics, and other sources of data that can contribute to our shared understanding of the current state of data management risk around the enterprise. Identify and analyze changes, events, patterns, or trends that merit additional attention, and work with SMEs to build grounded and actionable recommendations.

  • Use analytical skills to execute regular risk assessments, for example, by reviewing data management controls each quarter and assessing what has changed/what needs to change to adequately manage data risk.

  • Perform gap assessments and create recommendations to ensure progress towards compliance with enterprise data management expectations.

  • Support the Data Management Advisor team with process management skills, for example running stand ups, tracking ongoing challenges, and providing regular updates.

  • Demonstrate strong communication, collaboration, problem solving and influencing skills across various levels of the organization.

  • Stay current on understanding effective Data Management strategies, requirements, and industry trends 

Basic Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s Degree or military experience

  • At least 3 years of experience in a data management or data governance role 

  • At least 3 years of experience in risk management

  • At least 2 years of experience managing processes or controls

  • At least 1 year experience governing metadata and data quality

 

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • 4+ years of experience in risk management within financial services

  • 4+ years of experience in a data management or data governance role 

  • 2+ years experience governing metadata and data quality
