Role Summary

The Principal Software Safety Engineer position in the System Safety and Validation team has two major objectives; coordinate, execute and document the Self-Certification & 3rd-Party Certification Activities for our OS and Middleware software systems and serve as a subject matter expert for software development best practices and architecture across multiple domains and languages.

Role Responsibilities 

Product Certification and development activities:

Responsible for leading Self-Certification & 3rd Party Certification Activities for our internally developed software execution environment (OS and Middleware)
Acts as single-point-of-contact & on-site support for U.S. Partners performing Certification Testing
Manages the certification timelines, requirements, dependencies & logistics.
Manage software/hardware infrastructure (test-bench fixtures, parts and ECUs) required for validation efforts for in-house developed software components.
Manages the teams error backlog to guarantee an in-time software launch.
Reports the certification and validation status to CARIAD stakeholders & management.
Technical alignment with suppliers and development partners.

Additional activities:

Creation of safety relevant documentation, requirements and test specifications and reports.
Status reporting to project stakeholders (domestic and international).
Leading contract engineers on testing and certification best practices.
Leading new project proposals to stakeholders (domestic and international).

Years of Experience

12+ years of Safety Engineering industry experience including at least 5 years of hands-on experience in development of operating systems, middleware and/or communication fabric for safety critical systems.

Required Education

Bachelor’s Degree (or equivalent) in Electrical/Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Mechatronics or related technical field

Desired Education

Master’s Degree (or greater) in Electrical/Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Mechatronics or related technical field
