The Finance Team at Marley Spoon is growing, our mission is to provide business partnerships using best-in-class financial data and analysis. Our aim is to help the company make the right, fact-based decisions to move the business forward. As part of this effort, we are now looking for an exceptional Financial Controller (EU).
What we are looking for:
We are searching for an analytical and detail-oriented individual to oversee the financial analysis of our operations in the European Union. This includes our centralized production facility in the Netherlands, sales in five countries, and our global headquarters in Berlin. Given the dynamic nature of our business, we need someone who can also serve as a strong business partner, aiding the company in achieving its objectives and making data-driven decisions. Ideally, the role will be based in Utrecht, Netherlands.

This is a hands-on role that will support all areas of the business and senior leadership for the EU segment of Marley Spoon:
- Managing monthly, quarterly, and annual financial closing activities for the EU segment, following IFRS guidelines.
- Analyzing a significant amount of transactional data, summarizing and drawing conclusions to facilitate key accounting and business decisions.
- Collaborating with the accounting and FP&A teams to bridge the gap between financial transactions and expected business outcomes.
- Developing, implementing, and maintaining internal standards, processes, and routines based on group requirements, introducing new processes and improvements as needed.
- Reviewing or performing monthly close activities related to key balance sheet accounts, such as inventory, deferred revenue, and accounts receivable.
- Partnering with Procurement, Sourcing, and Fulfillment Center Inventory Management teams to analyze movement and trends across multiple fulfillment centers, ensuring accurate and timely inventory transactions.
- Providing explanations on changes in balance sheet account balances, delivering monthly reviews to the Finance leadership team to explain performance.
- Supporting the internal control framework by conducting various internal control processes for the EU entity.
- Participating in monthly and quarterly physical inventory counts.
Who you will work with:
While this is an EU-based role, you will collaborate with the global Marley Spoon finance team, especially the centralized accounting function based in Berlin, Germany. Additionally, you will work closely with our EU-fulfillment center (FC) support teams in Nieuwegein, Netherlands, which encompasses procurement, inventory management, and more, bridging the gap between finance and daily FC operations. The position will report directly to the EU Head of Finance, based in Germany.
Who we believe can excel in this role:
- 4+ years of relevant work experience in Finance, Accounting, and/or Controllership functions.
- Understanding and working experience with the P&L, including the ability to grasp the business context and performance drivers.
- Prior experience in Direct-to-Consumer, E-commerce, or FMCG/manufacturing companies is highly desirable.
- A degree in finance, accounting, or management is preferred but not required.
- Proficiency with data analysis tools (BIs) and Excel (Power Query, Power BI).
- English is the company's working language.
