Description

The Department of Health, Human Performance, and Recreation (HHPR) in the Robbins College of Health and Human Sciences at Baylor University invites applications for a full-time tenure-track position at the Assistant Professor rank, beginning August 2026. This position will directly support the Health Science Studies major, one of the largest undergraduate pre-health programs at Baylor University. The program provides academic concentrations for students pursuing: Pre-Medicine (Pre-Medicine, Pre-Dentistry, Pre-Veterinary, Pre-Podiatry, Pre-Optometry, and Pre-Pharmacy), Pre-Physician Assistant, Pre-Physical Therapy, Pre-Occupational Therapy, Pre-Athletic Training, and other Health Professions (Pre-Genetic Counseling, Pre-Healthcare Administration, and related fields).

We seek a candidate who has expertise in clinical, applied, or translational medical research and is also an effective undergraduate educator. The ideal applicant will be comfortable teaching in the Health Science Studies curriculum that equips undergraduate students with the skills to conduct and interpret research and apply evidence-based practice in their future health professions. Candidates research should focus on clinical disorders, including but not limited to the following systems: cardiovascular, neurological, skeletal, endocrine, etc. Preference will be given to applicants whose research expertise complements our existing strengths in cardiovascular and skeletal muscle biology, and who can foster collaborations that enhance the translatability of the department’s pre-clinical research. The successful candidate will develop and maintain a robust, externally funded research program with a strong commitment to involving undergraduate students in research.

HHPR houses state-of-the-art research laboratories supporting applied and translational biomedical science in both human and complementary model systems. Collaborative opportunities exist within Robbins College and across campus, including with Baylor Scott & White Health, Baylor College of Medicine, and other local clinical and research partners.

Qualifications

Required:
o   Earned doctorate (Ph.D., M.D., D.O., or equivalent) in a relevant biomedical, health sciences, or clinical field.
o   Evidence of applied and/or translational research expertise in one or more targeted areas.
o   Demonstrated potential for or record of securing external research funding.
o   Strong commitment to undergraduate research engagement and experiential learning.

Preferred:
o   Ability to perform diagnostic procedures (e.g., ultrasounds, computed tomography, muscle biopsies) for research applications.
o   Ability to teach undergraduate students how to conduct and interpret research and apply evidence-based practice in their future health professions.
o   Postdoctoral or equivalent research experience.
o   Prior experience mentoring undergraduate or graduate students in research settings.
o   Collaborative track record across disciplinary and institutional boundaries.
