About the role

GEICO is seeking a dynamic and visionary individual to join our Exchange Hub Engineering team. The Exchange Hub team is dedicated to facilitating seamless and secure communication and collaboration across all internal and external third parties by collecting, managing and optimizing the exchange of data.

An ideal candidate is intellectually curious, has a solution-oriented mindset, and enjoys learning new tools and techniques. You will have the opportunity to design and deliver the centralized and secure data exchange platform, related SDK, and related tools to collect, manage, and analyze user data from various sources for personalized and data-driven Insurance products and services. You would utilize Metering, Telemetry & Streaming Technologies to enhance risk assessment and customer engagement through real-time data collection, data store and data analysis.

Position Description

Our Staff Engineer is a key member of the engineering staff working across the organization to provide a friction-less experience to our customers and maintain the highest standards of protection and availability. Our team thrives and succeeds in delivering high quality technology products and services in a hyper-growth environment where priorities shift quickly. The ideal candidate has broad and deep technical knowledge, typically ranging from front-end UIs through back-end systems and all points in between.

Position Responsibilities

As a Staff Engineer, you will:

  • Design, implement and support data quality solutions
  • Design and implement solutions to manage data products, data contracts and data dictionaries
  • Design and implement data lineage solutions
  • Support, troubleshoot, implement, and maintain enterprise data governance solutions
  • Support, troubleshoot implement and maintain, resilient distributed systems
  • Responsible for technical aspects of a project at the team level
  • Lead design sessions and code reviews to elevate the quality of engineering across the organization
  • Spearhead new feature use (innovate within existing tooling)
  • Spearhead new software acquisition and use (innovate with new tooling)
  • Leverage automation to remove redundant error prone tasks to improve the quality of the solution
  • Build product definition and leverage your technical skills to drive towards the right solution
  • Engage in cross-functional collaboration throughout the entire software lifecycle
  • Define, create, and support reusable application components/patterns from a business and technology perspective
  • Mentor other engineers
  • Consistently share best practices and improve processes within and across teams

Qualifications

  • Programming experience with at least one modern language such as Java, C++, Python or C# including object-oriented design
  • Experience working with open-source tools
  • Experience with shell scripting
  • Solid understanding of container orchestration services including Docker and Kubernetes, and a variety of Azure tools and services
  • Advanced understanding of DevOps concepts including Azure DevOps framework and tools
  • Ability to work independently with limited supervision and contribute towards team efforts
  • Ability to support multiple projects simultaneously and work in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong critical thinking, decision making, trouble shooting and problem-solving skills
  • Ability and desire to learn new skills and techniques
  • Passion to innovate and provide high quality software for data management applications
  • Excellent verbal/written communication skills, including communicating technical issues to non-technical audiences
  • Passion for learning and professional growth, data discovery and a commitment to excellence
  • Knowledge of n-tier enterprise applications
  • Object oriented programming skills and awareness of SOLID design patterns a strong plus
  • Advanced understanding of monitoring concepts and tooling
  • Experience with continuous delivery and infrastructure as code
  • Knowledge of developer tooling across the software development life cycle (task management, source code, building, deployment, operations, real-time communication)
  • Experience with relational and non-relational database technologies (SQL, Oracle, COSMOS, NoSQL etc.)
  • Understanding of monitoring tools
  • Understanding and experience working with Microsoft Azure DevOps (work items, build/release, CICD)
  • Understanding of Data Ingestion/ streaming tooling such as ADF (Azure Data Factory), Kafka, Fivetran, Spark, or similar technologies
  • Understanding of metadata management, data Ingestion, data management, data quality, and data lineage services and technologies
