Overview
The Supervisor functions as the unit-based clinical shift leader with responsibility for staff direction, patient safety, efficient resource utilization, mentoring of unit staff, especially recent hires, shift assignments and overall quality of care delivered. This role actively coordinates and participates in PI activities, collects data to assess employee performance and participates in staff evaluation process. The Supervisor must be available to work weekends and holidays based on unit needs.
Responsibilities
The Supervisor is responsible for the following leadership and management duties:
DCH Standards:
- Maintains performance, patient and employee satisfaction and financial standards as outlined in the performance evaluation.
- Performs compliance requirements as outlined in the Employee Handbook
- Must adhere to the DCH Behavioral Standards including creating positive relationships with patients/families, coworkers, colleagues and with self.
- Performs essential job functions in a manner that ensures the safety of patients, visitors and employees.
- Identifies and reduces unsafe practices that may result in harm to patients, visitors and employees.
- Recognizes and takes appropriate action to reduce risks and hazards to promote safety for patients, visitors and employees.
- Requires use of electronic mail, time and attendance software, learning management software and intranet.
- Must adhere to all DCH Health System policies and procedures.
- All other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Registered Nurse with current Alabama or Multistate License required.
- Degree Requirement
- Bachelor’s degree in Nursing required or must be actively working on a Bachelor’s degree with completion date within 4 years of hire and evidence of active matriculation.
OR
Associates degree in nursing accompanied by a Bachelor’s degree in Allied Health Sciences.
- Minimum 2 years’ experience as a registered nurse required. Critical Care/Cardiac/ED nursing experience with extensive knowledge of EKG rhythms preferred.
- Customer service abilities including effective listening skills, critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with the minimal supervision in a fast-paced environment.
- Must be able to read, write legibly, speak, and comprehend English.
- Current AHA BLS and AHA ACLS required.
