POSITION SUMMARY
The Associate Director of Community Life (ADCL) supports the Director of Community Life in providing operational leadership and oversight to emergency shelter services at Denver Rescue Mission (DRM) sites. This position is responsible for ensuring smooth day-to-day shelter operations, managing frontline staff, implementing consistent service standards, and supporting continuous improvement initiatives.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Operations & Site Oversight
- Manage daily shelter operations at DRM and partner-operated facilities, ensuring cleanliness, safety, order, and adherence to shelter schedules.
- Oversee coordination of site resources including laundry, meal services, bed check-in, inventory, transportation, and maintenance.
- Ensure that SCRIBE and HMIS data systems are accurately and consistently used by frontline staff.
- Partner with Operations, Volunteer Services, and Kitchen teams to maintain service flow and resource availability.
- Serve as on-site leadership during peak hours and in the Director’s absence; participate in rotating on-call schedule.
Staff Leadership & Development
- Supervise and support Community Life Supervisors, Leads and Coordinators across all shifts.
- Lead hiring, onboarding, training, coaching, and performance management for frontline shelter staff.
- Foster a guest-centered culture through regular supervision, staff meetings, and mentorship.
- Implement performance management procedures and evaluations in collaboration with HR and the Director.
Safety, Cleanliness, and Guest Experience
- Enforce safety protocols, shelter policies, and neighborhood agreements, including building entry/exit procedures and external site monitoring.
- Promote consistent de-escalation practices and guest engagement standards.
- Ensure that the facility is cleaned according to established standards.
Partnerships & Administration
- Support compliance with City of Denver (HOST) contracts and other service agreements.
- Participate in community meetings, trainings, and collaborative efforts related to shelter programming.
- Assist in compiling reports, invoices, and performance data for internal and external stakeholders.
- Recommend and implement improvements in procedures, workflows, or service models.
Requirements
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's in Business, Education, Human Services or a related field required; equivalent relevant experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
- Minimum of 3-5 years in shelter, housing, or social services, including at least 2 years in a supervisory or leadership role.
- Experience managing teams and operations in high-acuity or emergency service environments preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to lead diverse teams in dynamic, fast-paced environments.
- Familiarity with conflict resolution, behavioral management, and structured community living.
- Strong administrative and operational skills, including scheduling, compliance, and documentation.
- Proficient in Microsoft 365 and relevant database systems (e.g., HMIS).
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Must be flexible and willing to work non-traditional hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- Active Driver’s License as a limited amount of work-related travel may be required.
- Must be a Christian holding to the beliefs set forth in the Statement of Faith, expressed by a personal testimony and Christian conduct.
