A Brief Overview
The Enterprise Research Data Broker (ERDB) plays a critical role in supporting vital medical research at Stanford Medicine. They act as expert intermediaries, bridging the gap between researchers and the vast health system data landscape. ERDBs possess a unique blend of technical expertise, analytical prowess, and communication skills, enabling them to effectively: Acquire and curate data: ERDBs source and integrate data from diverse sources within the Stanford Medicine ecosystem, ensuring its accuracy, completeness, and compliance with regulatory and privacy protocols. Analyze and interpret data: They leverage their analytical skills to extract meaningful insights from complex datasets, employing statistical methods and data visualization techniques to uncover hidden patterns and trends. Facilitate data exchange: ERDBs act as data stewards, establishing and maintaining efficient data pipelines between systems, ensuring seamless access for authorized researchers. Collaborate and communicate: They foster strong relationships with researchers, understanding their specific data needs and translating complex data into actionable insights. This involves clear and concise communication, both verbally and in written reports and manuscripts. Handles routine datasets: Focuses on acquiring, interpreting, and communicating data from well-defined sources. Essential data tasks: Performs data cleaning, transformation, and validation tasks. Compliance adherence: Ensures all data handling adheres to regulatory and privacy protocols.

What you will do
- Data Acquisition and Management:
- Source and acquire data: Identify and access relevant data sources within the Stanford Medicine ecosystem, including electronic health records (EHRs), research databases, and clinical trial data.
- Data cleaning and validation: Perform data cleaning tasks to ensure accuracy, completeness, and consistency. This includes identifying and correcting errors, handling missing values, and ensuring data conforms to established standards.
- Data transformation and formatting: Transform and format data into a usable format for analysis, ensuring compatibility with specific research tools and software.
- Data compliance: Adhere to all applicable regulatory and privacy protocols, including HIPAA, IRB, and data security policies.
- Data Analysis and Interpretation:
- Perform basic statistical analysis: Conduct descriptive statistics, such as calculating means, medians, and standard deviations, to summarize data characteristics.
- Generate data visualizations: Create clear and informative visualizations, such as charts and graphs, to represent data patterns and trends.
- Interpret data findings: Analyze data to identify key insights and communicate findings to researchers in a clear and concise manner.
- Communication and Collaboration:
- Communicate effectively with researchers: Understand researchers' data needs and provide tailored support, including data retrieval, interpretation, and analysis.
- Collaborate with other ERDBs: Work effectively as part of a team to ensure efficient data management and analysis.
- Document data activities: Maintain accurate and detailed documentation of data acquisition, processing, and analysis activities.
- Additional Responsibilities:
- Stay up-to-date on emerging data management and analysis tools and techniques.
- Participate in professional development opportunities to enhance skills and knowledge.
- Contribute to the overall success of the ERDB team by upholding high standards of professionalism and teamwork.
Education Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university or equivalent combination of education and technical experience.
- Bachelor's degree in a relevant field such as statistics, computer science, bioinformatics, health informatics or a related field. Preferred
Experience Qualifications
- One (1) - two (2) years of experience in data analysis, data management, or a related field.
- Experience with data management and analysis tools and techniques. Preferred
- Strong understanding of research methodologies and data privacy regulations. Preferred
- Basic understanding of internet/web tools and technologies and software
