About Our Company

Aflac Asset Management, LLC, (d.b.a. Aflac Global Investments) is a wholly owned subsidiary of Aflac Incorporated (Aflac). Aflac Global Investments (GI) located in New York’s financial district and is the organization responsible for the overall investment activities of Aflac, Inc. and subsidiaries in Japan, Bermuda, and the U.S.  With 150 employees globally, GI seeks investments to maximize long-term returns with a focus on preservation of capital, subject to our asset-liability profile and liquidity and capital requirements.  GI has primary investment and asset management responsibility for Aflac’s general account consisting of public, private, and growth assets (including strategic partnerships) which generates approximately $3.5 billion a year in net investment income.  As of year-end 2023, Aflac’s total general account portfolio was approximately $100 billion.

 

The investment teams support GI’s overall goals and objectives by providing market insight and in-depth knowledge of assigned asset classes. GI oversees the strategic deployment of capital for life and supplemental health insurance company balance sheets utilizing both internal teams and external third party asset managers. In 2021, Aflac Inc. became a signatory of the Principles of Responsible Investment (PRI), the global framework for incorporating ESG considerations into investment and ownership decisions.  As a PRI signatory, Aflac reinforced their continued commitment to seeking ESG friendly investments into their overall SAA.

 

Program Overview

  • The Summer Internship is an intensive ~10-week program within the strategic opportunities team, a team responsible for identifying, assessing, and executing Aflac GI’s equity investments in third party asset managers with a focus on a disciplined return on investment methodology.
  • The Intern will gain valuable experience performing financial modeling and valuation, while also developing deep industry and market knowledge across insurance asset manager with a strong emphasis on U.S. and introduction to Japan capturing a variety of institutional and industry specific concepts to help inform investment professionals.
  • The Intern will benefit from exposure to Aflac Global Investments investment wide platform with emphasis on macro-economic data used across portfolio with an emphasis on fixed income, understanding investment risk management, economic undercurrent, and leading up to how information is assembled and presented to key stake holders.
  • The Intern will interact with Senior Management and will present their analytical project(s) to an audience of key stakeholders including other investment professionals, analysts, traders, portfolio managers, and Senior Management.

Professional Development

Our summer interns participate in a series of activities that provide the opportunity to learn about all areas of the firm, as well as on-the job training in portfolio management.  Additional asset class exposure may include other fixed income assets, infrastructure debt, middle market loans, foreign exchange, derivatives, structured private credits and alternatives.  The Intern will be assigned projects in support of current business needs while learning how to navigate the credit bond market (investment grade and high yield) and genesis of the investment decision and portfolio construction.
