Description
Position Summary:
Collect blood samples, perform lab testing, process body fluids, and assume the Medical Assistant role, as needed.
Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Performs venipuncture according to universal precautions and safety standards. 2. Performs responsibilities in a manner that promotes quality patient care and customer service/satisfaction
3. Tracks collected specimens by initialing, dating, and noting times of collection; maintain daily tallies of collections performed.
4. Accurately maintain daily log recording lab status and results.
5. Prepare specimens for transport according to proper collection and handling procedures.
6. Maintains specimen integrity by using aseptic technique, following department procedures and protocols.
7. Performs CLIA waived glucose tests, urinalysis, urine pregnancy tests, and fecal occult.
8. Perform accurate data collection and document test results in patient health record. Report abnormal results to provider as directed.
9. Maintain quality control results by following department procedures and recording results in the quality-control log. Identify and report changes as needed.
10. Adhere to lab and lab recall procedures.
11. Operate autoclave and EKG machine.
12. Maintain laboratory to ensure area is neat/clean and stock as needed.
13. Trains volunteers, students and staff.
14. Follow up and clarify laboratory testing ordered and receipt of results.
15. Match all laboratory requisition forms and specimen tubes; properly complete laboratory accession record.
16. Provides care to patients visiting the clinic under the direct supervision of a provider or nurse/clinic manager
17. Interviews patients, measures vital signs and records information in patients` charts
18. Assists providers in translation for patient examinations and procedures, if needed
19. Reports observations, conditions and problems of patients to the provider and/or nursing management team
20. Obtains and provides results of lab or diagnostic testing to provider
21. Communicates instructions regarding care to patients
22. Performs appropriate hearing and vision testing, EKG, spirometry, point of care testing, specimen collection, equipment cleaning/reprocessing and other requested procedures as required
23. Assists in reviewing voicemails, ensuring proper follow-up is taken
24. Follows all infection control, hand hygiene and PPE guidelines
25. Prepares and stocks rooms (daily/weekly) and clinic supplies prior to visit as well as cleaning rooms appropriately between patients
27. Delivery of medical care in accordance with the Catholic Moral and Ethical Directives.
28. Follows all HIPAA and OSHA guidelines and regulations, including assisting HIPAA and OSHA Officers in ensuring compliance.
29. Maintains confidentiality of patient information/records at all times
30. Maintains established San José Clinic policies, procedures, objectives, quality assurance, safety, environmental and infection control.
31. Implements job responsibilities in a manner that is consistent with the San José Clinic Mission and Code of Conduct and is supportive of San José Clinic cultural diversity objectives.
32. Performs other related work as required.

Requirements
Qualifications, Education and Experience:
1. High school diploma or equivalent required.
2. Medical Assistant/ Phlebotomy or laboratory assistant certification
3. Current CPR Training
4. Minimum of 12 months experience in family practice or community health setting, preferred
5. Ability to communicate with medical terminology in English and Spanish
6. Can demonstrate excellent organizational skills, multi-tasking and effective use of time. Also, able to handle and complete multiple tasks or projects with multiple deadlines.
7. Ability to deal professionally, courteously and efficiently with public and all levels of the organization.
8. Ability to operate computer and copier fax.
9. Must be proficient in Microsoft Office, practice management system software and electronic health record applications.
10. Can demonstrate effective verbal and written communication skills.
11. Can demonstrate effective customer relation skills, working with diverse populations, often in stressful fast paced environments.
