About the role

PURPOSE
• The Cost Accounting Analyst will be responsible for analyzing manufacturing costs, preparing reports, and providing insights to support informed business decisions. This position requires a strong understanding of cost accounting principles, excellent analytical skills, and the ability to communicate effectively with various stakeholders.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
• Cost Analysis: Analyze standard costs and actual production costs, identifying variances and providing explanations.
• Inventory Accounting: Maintain accurate inventory costing records, including raw materials, work-in-progress, and finished goods. Participate in physical inventory counts and cycle counts.
• Variance Analysis: Investigate and explain production variances related to material, labor, and overhead. Prepare detailed variance reports and provide recommendations for improvement.
• Cost Reporting: Prepare regular and ad-hoc cost accounting reports for management, including cost of goods sold, gross margin analysis, and profitability analysis.
• Standard Costing: Assist in the development and maintenance of standard costs for all manufactured products.
• Review and update standards as needed.
• Budgeting and Forecasting: Support the budgeting and forecasting processes by providing cost data and analysis.
• Process Improvement: Identify and implement opportunities for process improvements within the cost accounting function.
• Internal Controls: Ensure compliance with internal controls related to inventory and cost accounting.
• Cross-Functional Collaboration: Collaborate with Manufacturing, Operations, and other departments to understand production processes and cost drivers.
• Ad-hoc Projects: Participate in special projects and provide cost analysis as needed.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORK ENVIRONMENT
• Working conditions are typical for an office environment
• Work requires extensive work using a computer
• Maintain seated posture/position for eight of more hours per day
• Will require time in the manufacturing area where standing for a pro-longed time will be necessary
• Responsibilities may require evening and weekend work in response to needs of the systems being supported
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
• 2 years of experience in cost accounting or a related analytical role, preferably within a manufacturing environment.
• Strong understanding of cost accounting principles, including standard costing, variance analysis, and inventory valuation methods (FIFO, LIFO, weighted average).
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with a strong attention to detail.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel
• Experience with ERP systems is highly desirable.
• Strong communication (both written and verbal) and interpersonal skills, with the ability to present findings to non-financial stakeholders.
• Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to meet deadlines.
