About the role

The Shipping Manager will be responsible for contributing to operational excellence by improving systems, processes, and policies to support the organization's goals. They will play a significant role in executing production plans that optimize turnaround time and expedite merchandise through the distribution center in an accurate, cost-effective manner, as well as creating long-term planning, including but not limited to initiatives geared towards the development of budgets to increase the effectiveness and efficiency within the department.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Accountable for Shipping department operations, yard management, safety, inventory, KPIs, budget, and associate development. Responsible for inbound receipt, accurately locating received inventory into its proper place the first time to maintain task protocols, and inventory best practices.
  • Manage staffing to match plan and production needs.
  • Ensure inventory movement is executed to plan at rate and hours, following defined and maintained best practices.
  • Monitor KPIs, to include OB planned volume, accuracy, resource utilization, cycle times, OTIF, volume, rate, and hours plan to actual and throughput.
  • Yard management
  • Monitor department budget planned to actual, direct, and indirect vCPU (virtual centralized processing unit)
  • Manage all aspects of the department's financial, operational, people, process, and service-related objectives to drive continuous improvement and efficiency gains to reduce overall cost-to-serve; participate in strategic and business process improvement projects for the distribution network.
  • Perform daily tasks associated with the Shipping Department's daily outbound schedule, prepping personnel, planning loads, and assisting when and wherever required.
  • Maintain an efficient flow throughout the department, keeping cost effectiveness and productivity as key goals at all times.
  • Analyze, review, and dispute chargeback violations related to shipping processes.
  • Accountable for developing department SOPs and ensuring work instructions are complete and useful when training employees.
  • Accountable for ensuring teams are trained and properly use tools such as PKMS, Pyramid, Garpac, SketchForce, iWarehouse, and other applications required for processing daily actions where applicable.
  • Accountable for maintaining a controllable flow to other departments, including ensuring inventory is received and put away accurately and in a timely manner, product is pulled and transported on time to meet processing hourly plans, and inventory movement processes are completed on time.
  • Responsible for continuous improvement of communication between shipping and other departments.
  • Collaborate on development and implementation of a cross-training program for staff with the goal of creating a knowledgeable, flexible, and agile operations leadership team.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of and recommend alternatives for work methods, procedures, controls, and staffing to achieve accurate and timely movement and processing of product; manage to ensure warehouse layout is optimally aligned for maximum efficiency as seasonality and inventory needs require.
  • Work with vendors to ensure proper supplies are available to meet demand.
  • Promote strong fiscal and ethical standards throughout the department.
  • Coach, train, and develop employees informally and through formal training programs, providing both informal (e.g., on-floor coaching) and formal (e.g., written evaluation) job performance-based feedback. Work with Human Resources to implement training resources.
  • Create an employee-centered workplace that demonstrates care and concern for all employees.
  • Partner with DC Human Resources to identify and address business/employee relations needs.
  • Ensure a culture of safety throughout the organization by following Skechers safety policies and procedures, and monitoring operational metrics on a daily, weekly, and monthly basis.
  • Accountable for the management of a department or functional group through supervisors/managers and for all personnel issues – including selection, termination, performance appraisal, and professional development of teams.
  • Ability to react quickly and appropriately to challenges, following up in a timely manner.
  • Participate in and be responsible for the annual operating plan and budget for the operational area.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor's degree in business or related field required
  • 5-8 years of experience in management/warehouse – shipping distribution preferred
  • Advanced knowledge of Manhattan Associates' PKMS/WMS preferred
  • Experience and working knowledge of automated warehouse systems

Salary 120,000 - 124,000
