Located in Danville, KY, the historic, picturesque 150-acre campus is 30 miles from Lexington, in the famed Bluegrass Region of Central Kentucky.
Qualifications
Support the glass program and coordinate additional support with the Art Studio Technician. Individual reports to the Art Program Chair. Individual is supervised by the glass professor. This is a two-year renewable position.
Essential Job Functions:
- Maintain equipment, inventory and a safe working environment in the hot shop, cold shop, and moldmaking studio.
- Manage all glass studios, scheduling, charging, tools, and general cleaning.
- Work with JVAC Studio Technician collaboratively on technical equipment and facility issues.
- Post and enforce safety rules in the studios.
- Instruct students in proper use of glass studio equipment.
- Assist glass professor in scheduling and demonstrating for classes and public events.
- Manage work-study students.
- Establish and maintain an emergency call list.
- Understand and maintain guidelines for emergencies.
- General assistance with all aspects of running the glass classes.
- Demonstrates an appreciation of and commitment to further an inclusive culture for those of diverse backgrounds such as ability, age, class, ethnicity, faith, gender, neurodiversity, race, and sexual orientation.
Marginal Job Functions:
Contribute to the overall success of the glass program specifically and the art program broadly, by performing other essential duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Education and Experience:
- College or technical degree focusing on glass preferred.
- Must have experience running and maintaining glass furnaces, annealers, GH’s and other hot glass equipment.
- Must have experience working in a hot glass studio and possess imtermediate level glassworking skills.
- Must have some experience with power tools and mechanical equipment.
Knowledge and Skills:
- Must demonstrate a strong work ethic;
- Must be self-directed, able to carry on projects without prompting;
- Must show an enthusiasm for the nitty gritty of studio maintenance;
- Must be available some nights and weekends;
- Must be a good colleague and work well with students of all levels;
- Valid drivers license required;
Physical Requirements:
- Mobility on campus;
- Pushing, moving, pulling and lifting. Lifting would not exceed 50 pounds.
