The Center for Biomedical Research Support (CBRS) is a collection of 10 service centers that operates under the Vice President for Research, Scholarship and Creative Endeavors (OVPR) and broadly supports the research community on campus and externally. CBRS serves a central role across all of campus to provide access to cutting-edge technology, expert advice, and centralized services. CBRS is comprised of core facilities including Biomedical Imaging, Bioinformatics, Biological Mass Spectrometry, Biomedical Research Computing, Cryo-EM imaging, Genome Sequencing, Microscopy/Flow Cytometry and Mouse Genetic Engineering. In addition, CBRS provides laboratory support in the forms of stockrooms, electronics repair, and external services drop boxes.

Purpose

The University of Texas at Austin is seeking to hire a full-time Technical Staff Assistant III to join the Electronics Service Core Facility that provides general electronics, scientific/laboratory equipment repair, maintenance, calibration, installation set-up, and design. This position will provide technical support, repair, and maintenance of equipment and instrumentation for the research community across campus under the direction of the Electronics Services Manager. 

Responsibilities

  • Provides maintenance and repair of Biomedical/Scientific equipment including but not limited to: refrigerators/freezers and related equipment, centrifuges, incubators, and other refrigeration systems in a wide variety of equipment, etc.

  • Assists Electronics Services Manager in day-to-day operations such as repair of equipment, responds to e-mail requests, scheduling, parts acquisition, technical research, & financial reports.

  • Maintains professional communications with faculty, professors (PI’s), lab managers, lab personnel, CBRS management, core directors and personnel.

  • Serves as a proxy for the Electronics Services Manager if needed.

  • Other related functions as assigned

Required Qualifications

  • 2 years recent experience in the repair and maintenance of refrigerators/freezers and related equipment.

  • High school or equivalent, supplemented by TDLR licensure and training in refrigeration.

  • Willingness to work on unfamiliar equipment and without substantial technical support from the manufacturer.

  • Strong written and communication skills.

  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office applications.

  • Strong interpersonal skills & demonstrated success working collaboratively with customers & colleagues.

  • Detail oriented with strong organizational and time-management skills.

  • Ability to work efficiently and flexibly in a fast-paced environment.

  • Regular and punctual attendance.

Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Greater than 5 years recent experience in the repair and maintenance of refrigerators/freezers and related equipment, preferably in the biomedical/scientific areas of specialization.

  • Completion of an Associate-level program in Refrigeration Technology or equivalent.

  • Experience in working on refrigeration systems in a multitude of equipment.

  • Intermediate proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.

  • Electronics repair experience and/or training in electronics technology.

Salary Range

$40,000 + depending on qualifications
